I don't really even need a handset but if I had to would consider taking one in package and ebaying it.
I don't think so. The retention dept want to keep you as an 02 customer so if you aren't already a customer I can't see they would give you a deal to go to them. Also you appearently get the best retention deals if you are an online customer. i.e you bought your deal online as opposed to in an 02 shop.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. Ok, my first attempt this morning, here's the lowdown:
I had a 12 month contract, but it expired about 6 months ago and I hadn't previously got round to upgrading. My spend is normally £25 tariff, £5 bolt on 100 texts, £5 - 10 additional call charges, so normally £35 to £40 a month total. I asked to go straight through to the disconnections department, said I would probably need to disconnect but would listen to what they had, is that a goood idea or not? Anyway, first offer is:
Free phone (SE W850i - fine for me)
12 month contract
£30 tariff - 250 minutes and 100 texts
£90 automatic discount (I can't be bothered with redemption) - that effectively brings the tariff cost down to £22.50, so once you add the bolt on, only £2.50 cheaper than my existing deal!
I said that I had friends who had been offered better deals, and I mentioned the advert in CPW right now that says retention customers can (at least) get an extra 400 texts, he said that is instead of the £90 off, so you can have one or the other. He wouldn't budge, and when I mentioned my PAC code he said he could issue the request for it there and then if I wanted!
Is this a new strict era, or is it worth trying again? What about upgrading online, is that better? If I do accept, presumably I'm better taking the extra 400 texts, as the extra £2.50 per month will effectively be buying me another 300 texts, and I do often exceed my limit.
Any advice?
EDIT: By the way, does anyone know if Voicemail retrieval is generally included in your free minutes on all tariffs and all networks? Or does it tend to be charged seperately? O2 website has 'free' vm on higher tariffs, but on lower tariffs its not clear whether it can be included in free minutes anyway or not...0 -
Used to be if you have a £30 a month or more then you would get it free, but not sure now, think that has goen up to £35. Ask them to include it in the deal, they should.Kind Regards

Looks like as you are a big spender then they want to keep you that way! I renewed my contract 2 days ago and stayed on the same deal as last year. I get 200 anytime anynetwork minutes and 500 texts for £15 per month. I was offered 500 mins and 500 texts for £20 but don't exceed my tariff limits anyway so not worth it for me. I also took £100 credit as I didn't want a new phone.
Are you an online customer? Apparently they get better retention deals. I am an online customer and they told me yesterday that 500 texts is the least I can have as I wanted to lower texts and up the minutes for the same money but couldn't.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. just got a cracking deal with O2...
500 mins & 500 TXTs and free D900 for £20 pm
took 3 calls to get it.. First time had quite an obnoxious guy who wasnt interested in keeping me as an O2 customer at all.
2nd time i spoke to a very nice lady who gave me the 500 mins & 500 TXTs for £20 but wanted £50 upgrade for the phone.
3rd time i called i spoke to another very nice woman who agreed to let me have the phone for free.
I think it really does work better if you are polite when dealing with these people cos i think they get a lot of aggro from people who arnt getting the deals they expect.
Anyway im well chuffed thanks to all who commented and gave advice on this thread

I`m trying to negotiate an N73 upgrade and simply want it for the same deal as a new customer, £25 per month for 125 min and 300 txts ( I think) but they wont budge. Tried to plead via email the fact I`ve been with them for 5 year but am now in possesion of my pac code!!!!!!!!!!0

Well, just humour them and pac your number onto a payg sim and then take out the new customer deal. (You can also PAC direct from o2 to o2-CPW without the PAYG sim)
I had to do it that way for my two contracts as they just didn't give me a good enough deal.

I barely use any of my minutes every month (less than an hour on average I'd say) and sometimes go over my allowance of 500 texts- so I would say that I'm their ideal customer (paying too much for my calls allowance and paying for my extra texts which cost 02 about 0.001p). So that means that I'll get offered my PAC code as well then:rotfl: .0
