Having secured a good deal on my contract, I encouraged a friend who is on O2 PAYG to do the same. On his second attempt he was offered a £25 per month contract with 500 anytime Xnet and 500 text (he was told he could 750 mins and 100 texts as an alternative) plus he was given a new K750 plus a bluetooth headset for free. Keep trying.....

Tried again this morning but decided my luck has run out after securing good deals for OH and eldest son back in March & April!

Got offered 18 mos contract, 300mins and 150 text for £30 pm or else 200 mins/200text for 6 mos then 100/100 for last 6 mos. £25. Not good eh? :(

Are you on PAYG as well rodders? What good deal did you manage to get? think I might give them another try today especially as son's phone is going to be repaired and he doesn't want a different one. It means I can have a new one instead! :)

No, I'm on contract. I got the Discount 500 (500 anytime xnet plus 100 text for £15 per month plus K750 for £35, although for some reason I am only being charged £10 per month - shh!)
    Nice to save.

    Hi all,

    this is interesting..

Coming up to the end of my 2nd year with O2, under my dads name but we have now cancelled due to me wanting to go on my own name.

Could i ring these lot up explain the above and say that i have been with them for 2 years indirectly and looking at all the options and what can they offer me?

    - I am currently on 300off peak minutes and 500mins for £20 and am looking at the £30 200 Minutes and 500 texts.

any chance of a better deal?

    regards

    Ben

Hi Matrix, thanks for the quick response!!

She is a direct customer of O2. She was originally a BT customer, has been with them donkey's years, and has always dealt with them over the phone. She gets her bills by post and pays by DD.

    Cheers!

    Daisy

    Hello,

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I was out working today.

Ok, so your friend is a direct customer of O2 therefore going through the customer retentions team will enable her to get the Discount 500 or Discount 750 tariff and some free text messages thrown in as well. Your friend will also get the choice of a free phone.

You have to advise your friend to call and say something along the lines of she is thinking of leaving O2 to go to 3 as there offering better deals with more mins... The O2 advisor should then offer her the 500/750 mins tariff.

She won't get as many free texts as an O2 Online customer but i think she may get between 100-300 texts.

Tell her to phone customer services and they will put her through to retentions

Just wondering  if it would be better if my son, on O2 PAYG, gets the cheapest tariff going for a contract this year and looks to getting a good deal next? He's a student but needs 250mins/100 texts so student deal isn't any good for him as it would cost him £30 with no double mins/text etc for first three months. I haven't been able to secure any good deals from O2 for him changing to contract. He was on a gap year last year so his usage for the last 12 months hasn't been that high.................but that's changed now!

(Couldn't get anywhere with Redeptions Dept as they tell me to phone CS as they can't help PAYG people.)
  • I have a little story that might interest some of you! When my contract was due up in April this year, I did all the usual stuff of looking round to see what was the best deal I could get to give O2 a bit of shoe with, basically found one (cashback admittedly) that gave 200 anytime mins and 500 texts for £15 a month (thats what it worked out to be after all the cashbacks). So I told O2 that was what I could get, and they just did it, with the Nokia I wanted.

My girlfriends was up a couple of weeks after, so naturally we did the same for her. Now it gets interesting, she was talking to her friends at uni, who were not on O2, and one of them rang up, told them that we had got this deal, and could she please have it. Amazingly, she got it! Without being a customer, she got, in my opinion, a very good retention deal.

Give it a try, you never know! :T

Why don't you try the 30 day contract sim and after 30 days phone up to cancel, they may then offer you the Discount 500/750 tariff so as you don't leave the network.

If they don't then you can cancal anyway, other than that the idea of getting a cheap contract on O2 and then the better deal next year sounds like a plan

Hi Matrix - can you keep your number with the 30 day sim do you know please? Thanks.

    Edit:
Can't find it on the site. Their site does seem to have a problem directing to you on so I've emailed them.
I do think I might go for the deal through mobileshop.com though which is double mins and texts for 3 months, 250/100 mins after, 5 mos half price rental which works out at £27.70 per month with the new SE. Only thing is the insurance is not for loss though - just theft etc.
Grrrrrr as you can tell I'm getting a little fed up with it all now as need to sort this out asap and I can't see the woods for the trees - so to speak:).

Yeah, you should be able to do that.

If your son was to get the pac (porting authorisation code) from O2 PAYG customer services he can then take it over to the 30 day contract sim and vice versa.

It takes approx 7days for this to go through
