Oh, its that fun time of the year again for me. Soon need to be ringing o2 to find out what they can offer me. Only difference this year is that I'm abroad - (SE Asia) and have only been using text messages for the past 7 months, and for the next 6 months (maybe even a year).

So unfortunately for me I'm going to HAVE to be happy with whatever deal O2 can give me. Fingers crossed then.

Im on the £19pm 50 mins anytime plus 200 txt tariff averaging overall monthly spend of about £23pm.

I dont want a new phone. Any ideas what people think I will get as a retention. I was looking at using one of 02 PAYG sims for £10 per month thus getting the extra 300 txts. Id rather not go through the hassle of going to PAYG.

My daughter gets 100 mins and 500 texts for £15 on a retention deal. It's up for renewal in Feb and she's hoping I'll be able to negotiate more minutes for her. If not, I'll be moving her to 3!

    THREE!!! Your keen!
  • o2 are being really mean at the moment with upgrade free phones and extra minutes, I've had horrendous problems the last couple of days. I've now cancelled my contract and starting again as a new customer. (will post later the full story)

Totally agreed. O2 is very mean indeed. My daughter's contract ends on 26/01. There is absolutely no discount tariff available. The last offer they gave was 500mins and 400 text at £35 for 18 months contract! We have given notive to cancel.
  • Been with O2 for 5 years and my contract is up. Rang up today and they offered me £35 a month for 500 mins and 500 txts plus £100 for the w950i or n93 for free. As it happens It would be cheaper to start a new contract and get the w950i for £39 or move to orange and get a better contract with the w950i for £50. The fella said he couldn't give me it any cheaper than £100 so i explained the prices elsewhere were cheaper and he said do you want your PAC code then. They practically asked me to move to orange. I wrote to that peter erskine having a go, we'll see what comes of it.

Just to update, I got a call from a fella on behalf of Peter Erskine saying that they would give me the same deal but with the phone for £39.99.

He said i had to ring retentions and they would sort it out.

The next day i said i'd decided to cancel my contract because i was paying too much and only wanted to spend £20 a month at the most. My last contract was £30 a month for 200 mins and 500 txts. She offered me 500 mins and 400 txts for £25 a month on 12 month with the W950i for free.

Also received a personal apology from Peter Erskine
  • My mum and sister have been on the O2 200, with 200 mins + 100 texts for £30/month. However BOTH phones are under the SAME account, so effectively they are paying a minimum of £60/month. I am trying to sort out their upgrade.

Their contract ends in January and the best deal I could get is 200 mins 100 texts for £15 per month - so effectively half price for 12 months. If I want the Sirocco/D900 there is also a charge for the handset (£50 for samsung, £300+ for sirocco!).

This isn't bad but I have been haggling with O2 for a couple of years now when it comes to upgrades and I have previously got better offers. For example for my current handset I upgraded to the discount 500, so I pay £10/month for 500 mins and 400 texts (plus free e900) - I have been on this deal for the past two years.

Therefore I expected a better (or similar) deal this time around, especially as my average monthly spend under this account is much higher (£60/month). When I upgraded to discount 500 my average spend was £15 per month! The upgrade is for my mum so she doesn't really use so many texts ie 100 is more than enough, but I wanted to spend approximately £10 per month - I was also hoping to get the phone for free. Since their monthly spend is relatively high, I thought the top of the range handsets would also be free. Do you think I am being unrealistic?

    Thanks

Just a quick update. Tried my luck again by calling up this evening. Quoted an "offer" from 3 (250 mins, 100 texts for £10/month, and ANY free handset), and asked them to match it or I would request my PAC code.

After a while she decided to offer 250 mins + 100 texts for £15/month. I asked for the Nokia Sirocco believing it might be free as my monthly spend was £60, but was told I would have to pay £300+!! I then asked for a D900 and she said it would be FREE. Since I have two accounts, I decided to also go for the Motorola KRZR K1, for the second account, which was also FREE.

So in summary, I upgraded two phones (same account) - 250 mins + 100 texts for £15/month. Also FREE Samsung D900 and Motorola KRZR K1.

From previous experience I understand I could have haggled for more mins/texts (I am paying £10 for 500 mins, 400 texts) - but my sister and mum use the phones and 250 mins/100 texts is more than enough. I thought it was a good deal because I could get the phone of my choice for free (except sirocco!)....
  • A quick aside - there don't seem to be many new handsets around, because when I upgraded my phone in September, the same phones were on the market.

Did I make the right choice in choosing the D900 and Motorola KRZR K1, or am I overlooking any new phones which have come out?

    Thanks
