My 02 contract is up for renewal and wanted to keep the same number. I rang customer services, asked for PAC number, she asked why, I said I had a better offer from 3, she asked me to hold the line. She came back with
500 mins.
500 text
12 Month contract
New phone or £75 credit (took credit)
For £20 a month.
Snapped their hand off!
Cheers

I've been pretty good at getting top deals from O2 over the past 2 years I've been with them, my current deal ending this month has been 500mins 400Texts for £15/m, HOWEVER, this time i squeezed and I squeezed, but the best they offered was 500mins 500 texts for £20pm. which is stil good in the grand scheme of things, but I got the impression that this really was their limit (for the current set of deals anyway). also got myself a nokia n73, so should be nice
please do keep posting success (and not so success, as the case may be) stories, so we all know what deals are available!!:T0 -
Rang O2 for my PAC and told them I was thinking of moving to 3. I was offered a choice of 3 phones and 2 12 month contracts, either 100 mins and 400 texts £15 month or 500 mins and 400 texts for £25. Said I would think about it. I had a look at the 3 phones they were offering and wasnt particularly impressed with them so I rang back with 3 of my choice. Managed to get 1 of them, SE W710i free with 12 month contract of 100 anytime mins and 400 texts for £15. Quite pleased with this.

Just for your information. As I said earlier I really tried to push O2 this year (I called a few days ago) and they were willing to offer 3 deals.
1) 500mins 500texts £20pm
2) O2 LONG WEEKENDS 600mins(mon-fri)2000mins(weekends)+1000texts £35
3) 750mins 500 texts £35
note that 1) is a 12m contract but 2) and 3) were 18m
i tried pushing for 2) (cos its obviously better than 3) at the same price!) but for both 2) and 3) they werent allowed to come down on the price AT ALL. no negotiations were possible when I called.
So I ended up with 1) and a free upgrade, which is still good in the bigger picture I suppose..(cos i didnt wanna pay £35pm)
Just as a rule of thumb, I tend to call 3 times. first I express my desire to leave and ask whether if i wanted to do so, was now the appropriate time (eg 30days within the end of your contract). they tend to offer you something rubbish at that point. Second time I call, I say I've called before, done some more research into 3 (the network) and wanted to know if I can get anything better. they offer a good deal, but you say you'll sleep on it. The third time you call is the time you make your decision. Really squeeze them, as for a discounted tariff, explicitly ask for a lower line rental etc etc, and hopefully they might bring it down, if not, at least you know you've pushed them as far as they can physically go. then you choose your best offer.
that the way I tend to do it anyway, share your stories!:T lets all save some money together!0 -
Can anyone advise me on which department I should contact first?
...the upgrade or retentions
Thanks0 -
i always go to retentions, "if you're thinking of leaving O2, press 2" or whatever it might be.
then I tell them im thinking of leaving but im not sure - sort of thing..
i find that with retentions, they answer the phone MUCH MUCH quicker, theres hardly a wait at all!0 -
I just rang O2 retentions and was offered 400 mins and 750 txts for £24. I could have had a choice of any phone but I'm happy enough with my D500 so I'm getting £100 cashback instead.
I'm happy enough I'm getting 200 more minutes and 250 more texts a month for £6 less.0 -
One of my free line rental contracts is about to end. Called O2 to get my PAC code so I could keep the number. They managed to convince me to stay another 12 months by offering me £75 credit on a 100 Xnet tariff at £8.50pm
So that's £2.25pm! No new phone though, which is fine as I only want the minutes.
Took 3 calls to get this deal btw. For the first 2 calls I got the same tariff but no £75 credit. Third time lucky.0 -
I just rang O2 retentions and was offered 200 mins and 500 texts for £15. This was the same deal as I had last year which was discounted from £30. Only thing is they want to charge me £89 for a W850i or K800i. I do not want to pay that much!!
If I phone back and ask for PAC code, will that be the end of things or will I still be able to negotiate until I actually use it?0
