o2 have stopped offering phones free of charge to low spend users. You have to be spending on average about £50 per month to get this phone free on an upgrade.

Have a look and see what other phones they offer and how much they will cost you. You should be able to barter with them to reduce your monthy line rental. I was on the discount 500 tarrif last year (for £10 per month) and am now on the online 500 costing me £20 per month FYI and got the Samsung E900 FOC
  • The K800i is free on any tariff according to ther O2 website so if you want the phone for free don't try to get a reduction in your line rental, just ring up and say you want the phone for free, if they try to charge to just say that if its free for new customers on any tariff just cancel the contract and sign up again!
  • Also, I like to get a free upgrade every year, would I be able to get a free phone and bargain for a better tariff and/or reduced monthly charge? Not interested in a phone with all the bells and whilstles, just something that a new customer choosing the same tariff would be able to get for free.

You should be able to get some phones they offer FOC and also reduce your monthly spend a little. As you say just quote them other networks deals and see what they say. If the frist advisor cannot offer anything good then call back and speak to someone else.

    good luck
  • Yes you can start a new contract with them and get the phone for free but you lose your number and you cannot get any reduction in your line rental.

Yes but I would much rather cancel my contract, sign up again and get the phone for free, a new number would be a small price to pay!! If he pays the £200 they're asking even if he keeps his discounted line rental its costing him more money. £200 upgrade / 12 months = £16.66 pcm + £15 line rental, equates to a monthly charge of £31.66 as apposed to £25 line rantal and free phone. Paying the £200 is a false economy, you may be getting cheaper line rental but you've got to factor the cost of the upgrade into it.
  • yep you are correct. The phone would have to come down to £100 for it to be worthwhile to upgrade. Other phones will cost less than this and maybe worth considering
  • i've been offered 500 mins and 500 txt for £25 with a SE K610i. I'm gonna try and ask for the K800i and see if they give it to me for free. Any thoughts??

I doubt they will offer you the K800i FOC unless you have spent loads with them for the last 6 months.

The tarrif you've been offered is pretty good, you could try and bargain further
  • we have been with o2 for years on 2 contracts .

got onto the discount 500 deal last year.... think i got k750i's as free upgrades which i sold on ebay which nearly covered the years rental.

That was my aim again a few weeks ago when i called to do another 12 month deal.

at first they said they wanted £25 a month and a cheap free handset.

Couple of weeks later i tried again and they agreed the £20 month .. still a cheap free handset.

Asked for pac codes . which they were quite happy to !! .

3 weeks into the notice period hadn't heard anything so contacted them again .. tried everything to get one of the "decent" handsets .. worth around £160 /£175 on ebay.. they just wouldn't budge from £59 charge for one of them.

They did offer the £100 credit in lieu of handset which i quickly agreed to ... and have signed up for another 12 months .

    £12 x £20 - £100 ....= £12 month nett . Would have rather got close to £zero ... but can't really grumble !!

No they wouldn't go lower on the price. I don't want the phone they're offering me. I want the K800i or W850i. I'll give them a ring soon and let you know how I got on. Cheers
