I phoned up earlier to request my PAC and was offered the 500min/500 text for £25 (even though I have seen that people have gotten this offer for £20) and free Sony Ericsson 850i for free. My phone bills are normally just under £50 (am currently on discount 500/250 text for around £25, they messed up my account) don't know if I should take this deal or phone again later and see what they say...

I called up again today, and another guy gave me the same deal for £17.50 so I am pretty chuffed :)
  • hiya all, I'm so pleased i got told about this site a couple of weeks ago, my contract ran out today and I was going to go for the virgin ntl deal as im quite happy with the phone ive got so i thought i'd give this websites tactics a try.

after a couple of phone calls and a bit of bartering i managed to get the 500 x-net mintues and 500 texts for £20 per month and also £100 free credit giving me 5 months line rental free! overall im spending £20 extra on this 12 month contract over taking the one out with virgin but i get so many more minutes and texts, thankyou all for this thread, im loving the results!
  • If you get offered 500 mins & 500 text from O2 (£20 pm), you can hold out for 900 texts. They will add another 400 message bundle on after approval by a manager (trust me, I got it sorted on mine)
  • Just been onto O2 retentions, currently I am on 300 off-peak mins and 500 texts for £10 a month. Phoned up to cancel and I can stay on the same tarif I am on but they wanted £199 for a K800i  Is there any chance of me getting a better price for this? Previously when I called I was offered it for £89 but the had no record of this (suprise suprise!) It doesn't look as though I will be able to get a good deal on this, and this is the handset I want. Is there any reason why I can't cancel and start a new O2 contract? As the handset is free on new contracts but I would have to be on £25 a month. Or does anyone know of any better deals where I can get this phone free?

    Cheers

They are very strict with handset prices for low spend users so i doubt you could get much off the £199.

You wouldn't be able to keep your number if you started a new contract unless you went via a PAYG sim. You won't get any particularly good deals unless you go down the cashback route

I've been doing some research to see what I can get out of O2.

Last year I got on to the Discount 500 retention tariff (500 Xmins) for £10 + 100txts for an extra £5 plus a K750 for £9.99 however, when I agreed to extend my contract for 12mths I was told that i'd get 500Xmins + 100txts for £10/mth + the phone. This turned out to be untrue and I had billing problems every month until a team leader credited my account for the whole year. At one stage I had a team leader from the Cardiff call centre threaten to disconnect my line because he had never heard of a 500min tariff and it turned into an ugly disagreement.

Anyway, I called O2 back in August where they were able to offer me the same tariff for £20/mth but not being able to offer the K800 for my account. The phones being mentioned by the advisor were a load of guff.

I'm spending £30/mth now and am tempted to give retentions another call to see if they are able to offer the same deal + the K800.

I've looked around and have found that Orange are doing the 500min + 500txt for £35/mth except that the first 8mths are half price line rental. The attraction here is that the phone is free. O2 are doing a similar deal and would prefer staying with O2.

My question is, is it possible to downgrade to a PAYG on O2 as i'd like to keep my number (have had it for 13 years) and then sign up to a new contract with O2 after a few weeks on PAYG? This would also mean me moving the number ported to PAYG back to a new contract.

A sales guy at Phone4U says that this is possible and is able to offer me a 600Xmin + 100txt for £30/mth on O2 + a K800 for free.

It is not possible to trasfer to an O2 PAYG sim and then take the number back to an O2 contract as far as i know. You can only take your number to a non-O2 contract.

Check out this link for some cheaper cashback deals with the K800 on similar minutes to what you are looking for. £17.50 a month is not bad for 500xmins/500txt or 650xmins/200txt on an orange 18mth contract.

Ok, send an e-mail to peter.erskine@o2.co.uk and explain that you would like to remain on the same deal as last year. Peter is the Chief Exec of O2, one of his senior customer relations team will call you back to discuss!

    Worth a shot!
