Called O2 today requesting a PAC code and was offered the same retention deals.

Went for the 500 xnet minutes deal @ £20 per month.
Was advised that it is 1000 xnet minutes for the first 6 months.

Also, went for a new handset, SE K800i, for £80 which I popped into my local O2 store to purchase.

(Was also offered the SE W810i for £50 or the SEw850i for £80).

    CashBash,

Thanks for coming back to us and letting us know how you got on.

Seems like an good deal for the money. You decided against the other 2 deals you found in the end.

    BTW nice choice of phone.

Now Just need to decide what to do with my contract only 3 days left.
I think my monitor's running out of ink....
  • Ive been with o2 for 3 years and I now get 1000 xnet minutes and 2000 texts and new phone for £40 a month!

HI - I'm on monthe 15 of a 18 month contract with 02/Carphone wharehouse, and currently paying £25 /month for 100mins anytime, any network.

As a 'valued' customer, I'm being offered a renewed contract, replacing the remains of the old one with the following:
    £25 per month
    200mins anytime, any network,
    100 txts per month
    Brand new Sony Erikson W810i
£100 credited to my account in December.

The guy said he couldnt improve on the offer.

Any ideas on how to get a better offer than that. My target is to get it down to below £20/month (ideally £15) (inc VAT), 200 mins anytime + any network, 100txts, and a new handset.

    Over to you!!!!

CPW don't give as good upgrades as o2 directly so that maybe your best offer. ((12 x £25) - £100)/12 = £16.66 per month if that deal is for 12 months.

Threaten to cancel/ask for your PAC unless they can match a "deal you've been offered" from another network. Say you've been offered 200 mins/100 texts for £15 per month on orange or something and get them to match it if possible.

Make sure they realise you are genuinely thinking of leaving. If they can't do any better don't cancel, think about their offer and call them back

Thanks Charltonfan1 - the offer is for 18 month contract only - so it works out at £19.44 per month.

Having looked at the phone offered, the SE W810i, it seems a good phone, and being Sony, should be fair quality too.

I've looked at the excellent offers from '3' mobile, which seem to be far better - only thing is coverage where I am - in Mid Wales may be a problem.

Who are Carphone Warehouse's main competitors, maybe I'll try to use an offer from their main rival as a 'sweetener'...

    Thanks again!

I investigated the '3' deal which was:

    800xnet for 3 months then 400xnet for 9 months @ £17.50 then £35.00 thereafter.
However, after cashback, it came down to £60 for the term (12 months) which is £5 a month.

Cash back can be a pain in the rear and still not convinced by '3's' network coverage.
Also, the handset with the deal was a SE K608i which didn't appeal.
To cap it all, couldn't be bothered to go through the hassle of PAC codes and the like.

Compared to last year, am paying an additional £5 a month for over twice as many minutes and no cashback hassle.

Just need to make sure I use the minutes!

    Word of warning people...

If you go back to page 59/60 of this thread, you will see I got 500txt/500min for £20 a month + £100 vredit back in August.

Well this month I got my first 'bill' (i.e. £100 credit ran out). Only 3 months after the £100 credit, I thought that this was rather early to be billed.

I went online and checked my account. It appears that I have been charged £30 per month instead of £20. I called up o2 and they confirmed this, and will try to fix it. They said they might not be able to fix it and thus credit my account with saving equivalent.

Just to make sure everyone checks their monthly bills despite it being 'free'.

I'm actually pretty !!!!ed off with all of this. In August, despite me wanting a £100 credit, I was sent a k610. I never asked for this. Had to send this back and then get the £100 credit. now this rubbish of a £20 a month bill which is actually costing me £30. It all seems rather unprofessional and not of the standard I expect. Would anyone press on this issue and complain?

i know exactly what your on about

im coming up 2 he end of my 3rd contract with them

    first one fine

2nd one seemed high but i let the first bill go because i thoght that the price of the phone etc would have made it high

next month i thought it was high

same third month, but i was so far into it that i couldnt be !!!! argueing

    so this contract.

i think the first 4 months it was wrong, every time i rang up and made sure i got reimbursed for every penny,

the girl who did sort it out, who was VERY good, which i must say is a first for o2..

well basically i had been charged £30 instead of £20.. so she said pay the £30 and ill credit your account with £30.. so basically i got the next month free and half of the following month! i was well pleased!!

just shows, make sure you watch your bills!

I called today for my upgrade.

Last year i was on 200 xnet and 500 text for £20 a month.

After a bit of bartering I was offered 500 xnet and 500 text for £20 a month instead of £35 but they wanted £79.99 for the silver k800i so i said i wanted my pac code.

I called back an hour later and was offer the same deal but managed to get 2 months line rental free aswell so phone is costing me £9.99 and its free delivery aswell so now im happy.

Thanks to this thread its saved me a fortune!!!
  • I have been offered

1000 xnet mins, 200 SMS, ITS, Select CS, 12 month contract, 3 month rollover, 9 month upgrade for £28 per month.
  • if any "upgrade experts" could look in this thread that would be great - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=314856
