Hi there
Read this thread with interest - I rang o2 Rentenions today and got offered 500 xnet/anytime minutes and 900 texts for £20 a month, for 12 months. Asked to upgrade to a k800i and they want £80 for it which they won't seem to budge on. Fair enough if they can't, but I'm wondering out of interest if I was to cancel, move my number to PAYG virgin or something similar, could I then transfer my number back to o2 online 500 with a free k800i?
Might just have to cough up for it, but just annoying if I have too as you can get it for free on other networks or for a small charge... I have no objections to £30 or £40, especially as if I resigned up I could get it for free.
My bills range from £35-55 a month if that helps.
Cheers.

The online 500 tarriff is £35/month for 18 months for new contracts. Even though the K800i is free on new contracts this will cost you a lot more than what they have offered you on upgrade:
18 x £35 = £630 vs (12 x £20) + £80 = £320
o2 have been stricter with handsets costs in the last 6 months0 -
Sorry my slight bad, I meant the Online 500 off peak for 12 months contract which o2 still seem to offer with the free k800i... Anyway, that aside I see your point about the money they would/would not make back by charging the handset appropriately.

Hi guys,
I have just got off the phone from O2 Retentions, and to cut a long story short, have been offered the same 500mins and 400txts for £10/month tarriff that I have been on for the last year! :j :j  :rotfl:
Nearly fell off my chair when the operator told me, as i was resigned to the online 200 tarrif for £15/month (i was told i'd get £15/month discount from the standard £30).
Am seriously considering starting a separate thread just to let the news reach more people, what do we think? I wasnt pushy at all and she just came out with it, so there may still be hope for those people on the tarriff

I also stayed on this tarriff for another 12 months in september. I think they can carry on existing deals no problem. We were lucky last year when they offered the tarriff.
They are unlikely to offer it to other customers unless they were on it last year0 -

Yes this is what i presumed, although when i first rang up retentions some two weeks ago the guy said the tarrif was now defunct and would not be offered to me again- so it was just as well i didn't listen!
Did you get offered a new handset/credit when you renewed in September?

outrageous! the lady told me I wouldnt be eligible for a new handset, and i forgot to ask about credit! Currently waiting for some confirmation through the post of the tarriff and then I think I will ring up again, or have I lost all entitlement for a phone now?
Congratulations on your deal though :T *takes hat off*

I was average spend £50-£60 month using an old Motorola V220. On O2 25with 250 text bolt on's. (it included 100 free mins and 100 free texts per month)
Kept cancelling contract every year to take up a new cashback offer.
Rang Retentions, said I'd spoken to 3, O2 offered Samsung E900, 500 xover mins, 500 texts for £20 per month on 12 month contract!
Didn't even have to hassle - if I hadn't wanted new phone, she could have offered same deal for £15 per month. 12 month contract.
Thanks to this site yet again!!!!
Phone still not in stock so just thought I'd be a bit cheeky and try my hand at a better discount.
Said 3 had contacted me and bettered their offer.
Now getting 250 mins (my usage is low), 600 free texts which rollover, free Samsung E900 being despatched tomorrow and all for bargain price of £15 per month from O2
:T
Certainly pays to think about it and ring and try and get lower."Sumptus censum ne superet"
