Just called. £179.99 for me to upgrade to N73. Asked if that was the best price, she said she'd do it for £129.99. I can't believe it! guess I'll transfer PAC code to a Pay as you go then transfer it back to a new contract.

Do I have to wait a certain amount of time before I can request the PAC from the Pay as you go?

You would probably need to use the PAYG line until the number transfers, plus a day, then you should be able to get your PAC from the provider.

Just a question, is O2 retentions usually willing to match deals offered to new customers? I mean for standard, not special, tariffs.

As I have had my monthly contract with o2 for a year now, I rang today to upgrade my mobile and stay on the same contract - £19 for 500 text and I think 30 minutes talk time (I don't do much calling!).

I have the Nokia 6230, which I am happy with although it is 2 years old now and just wanted to upgrade to the 6233 as I don't like the flip phones particularly. o2 said I would have to pay £49.50 to upgrade to this and when I told him it said it was free on the website he said this was for "new customers only".:( So I immediately told him I wanted to cancel my contract (Im perfectly happy to change to pay and go and pay the £10 a month instead). So he put me through to the people who arrange the cancellations.

The lady in this department said they would waive the £49.50 for me and I could have the phone for free. She also said that the £19 a month Im paying would give me 300 texts but if I paid an extra £1 a month I could have 500 texts.

So I am now a happy bunny, looking forward to my new phone and to staying on virtually the same tariff! :D

(Just noticed that I put the wrong amount in the title!)
  • Anyone have any good deals second time round?

I called up a year ago and was put on the £15 pm 500 mins with a w800. Time to change again. I only want a new phone this time dont mind the same contract!

  • Word of warning people...

If you go back to page 59/60 of this thread, you will see I got 500txt/500min for £20 a month + £100 vredit back in August.

Well this month I got my first 'bill' (i.e. £100 credit ran out). Only 3 months after the £100 credit, I thought that this was rather early to be billed.

I went online and checked my account. It appears that I have been charged £30 per month instead of £20. I called up o2 and they confirmed this, and will try to fix it. They said they might not be able to fix it and thus credit my account with saving equivalent.

Just to make sure everyone checks their monthly bills despite it being 'free'.

I'm actually pretty !!!!ed off with all of this. In August, despite me wanting a £100 credit, I was sent a k610. I never asked for this. Had to send this back and then get the £100 credit. now this rubbish of a £20 a month bill which is actually costing me £30. It all seems rather unprofessional and not of the standard I expect. Would anyone press on this issue and complain?

i complained of the lack of organisation similar to what you experienced. Not sure where it will get me though.
  • Hello everyone,

I was previously on 500 cross-network / anytime mins with a 400 msg bolt on for £25/month. When I called o2 today I managed to get the online 500 tariff (500 cross-network / anytime mins and 500 msgs) for only £20/month and on a 12 month contract. Im also getting an N73 for £49.99.

I initially phoned the upgrades department and was offered the N73 for £99.99 and to remain on my existing tariff. I explained that new customers were being offered this phone for £39.99 and that other providers were giving the phone for free. The response was that the price can not be changed. I asked to be put through to retentions in order to get my PAC code.

When I got the retentions department, I was again told the handset price can not be changed but was offered the discount 500 for £20. I explained that I thought that this was still too expensive but to make a note of the offer on my account and that i would get back.

Called back a few hours later, explained the tariff was fine but the phone was too much, especially given the price for new customers. The operator immediately offered the phone for £49.99.

I have an average spend of £35/month, have been with o2 for 5 years and was always extra polite when dealing with the operators. In addition, I think you need a wee bit of luck as to the mood of the operator you get. I still wonder whether i could have got the phone for free...

Thanks for all the help given on here. I hope others have similar expreiences to mine.

DesG - you can call and have your number moved to PAYG at the end of your contract if you wish.
We would give you a PAC code and send you out a PAYG sim card for FOC.
This would mean you can have your number moved over to PAYG and contract cancelled in just over a week.
No written notice and no 30 days notice. Perfect option for low users.
There are some good low use options that Retention will offer - worth a listen.
A Retention advisor will have no problems moving you to PAYG as it doesnt 'go against them' in a Retention sense :) we love people who move to PAYG hahaha.

Heyho... Those deals are good. We have simplified our call charges. It's this simple:
    20p a minute
    10p a text.
Simple as. That's whoever you call and at whatever time.
It is more expensive for O2 to O2 or landlines, but cheaper cross network. But idea is to get a tariff to never go over! These prices match TMobiles Flext call charges.

Can you get reduction? If you are an existing ONLINE customer, then my colleagues have assured me that they WILL offer 20% off on the 18 month new Online tariffs. This would be a crafty one to get, not everyone is keen on giving reduction on 18 month contracts.
    But it will be done!

Does anyone know anything about o2 new online tarriffs?????????
  • Been with O2 for 5 years now on the BT Genie tariff (£10 per month) and called retentions asking for my PAC. Rarely went over my allowance. After a couple of calls and a bit of negotiation I got 100 mins, 500 texts, 3MB data and a Nokia 6633 for £10 per month. Sold the phone for £152 (before they changed their t&cs!)so got my service free for a year + a little profit.

    Thought I'd let you know.

    Incredible! Incredible!

I was average spend £50-£60 month using an old Motorola V220. On O2 25with 250 text bolt on's. (it included 100 free mins and 100 free texts per month)
Kept cancelling contract every year to take up a new cashback offer.
Rang Retentions, said I'd spoken to 3, O2 offered Samsung E900, 500 xover mins, 500 texts for £20 per month on 12 month contract!

Didn't even have to hassle - if I hadn't wanted new phone, she could have offered same deal for £15 per month. 12 month contract.

Thanks to this site yet again!!!! :)
