O2 New Retention Tariff Discount 500 / Discount 750

I can confirm what o2employee was saying. Despite averaging £60 pm over the life of my contract I was offered nothing better than a standard tariff - I have now received my PAC code and will be going elsewhere.0

The standard tariffs nowadays are not bad you know... but don't let that discourage you from asking. If they offer your PAC, you could take Martin's advice in his article and back off, think about it and shop around some more for a better offer.
I think O2 would be (as all the other mobile telcos) under quite a bit of pressure lately, given the EU machine moving to regulate roaming rates and the obvious desire by new owners Telefonica to generate a return on their big investment. Similar things happened with Orange when they were taken over.
IMHO, we should push as far as we can, but try to play nice, because they don't HAVE to give us what we want. O2 unfortunately are the only provider left who don't charge us for freephone and NTS numbers on contracts, and it would make business sense for them to value us customers a little less, much as I dislike saying it.
Now, my own contract is coming to an end in two months' time, I hope they'll let me stay on my 3-month-rollover old tariff and give me a new handset; don't think I'm asking for a lot but that's what I'll accept when the time comes, unless I'm offered something better, of course.0 -

Well I can confirm I was offered a decent deal today; 500mins 500txt for £20 a month - a lot better than a standard tariff. I find it strange that you would not be offered something that suits you since £60 is a big spend. Are you sure you spoke with the actual retentions dept? (for online customers it is 08706003009 option 2 then option 2 again) the regular customer service team don't offer anything but standard tariffs.
As others have said, if you are calm and polite an put your point across plainly, you should get results.0 -
Just called the number you mentioned z80 and they told me that they WERE NOT retentions...
Was advised that real number is 08706007102 option 2 and 2 again, you will see that the message actually says O2 Retentions as opposed to Customer services.0 -

Of course, it would be... 0870... so they can make a few pennies out of each customer as they wait. Try 0800 0288151 - I don't know if it will work for you but it's currently listed as an alternative to that non-geographic national rate number - I just tried it and it does go through to their queue.
Find many more alternatives to non-geographic numbers on https://www.saynoto0870.com - search under O2 and there's a load of options. This is most useful if you have a phone deal for your land line with inclusive minutes where 0870 numbers are not included

z80 wrote:As for not complaining if something goes wrong customer service wise, in my opinion it is acceptable to complain - we don't need to just accept that "things go wrong" and be done with it. Granted obviously things go wrong from time to time, but when they do you can expect to get your problems rectified quickly...
"Hear, hear" z80! Could not agree more.
O2employee... I never said I can't accept things can go wrong, after 12 years in business I've made my own mistakes dealing with customers. Every interaction is a moment of truth for the customer, they judge the company on what happens at each "contact point"... if it takes 6 goes to get a fix to a situation, then customers are going to be pi55ed off.
I laugh, I take the final credit (£60 is worth a smile init?)
£60 from O2
£50 cashback on debit card from Carphone Warehouse
Vodaphone contract 50% off for 6months
Free N80
Party with my mates up town and work hard to get on with life and earn as much honest cash as possible.
A successful complaint AND, apparently, a life! :rotfl:
Oh... and no more chuffin' O2 Treats texts :T

Had some trouble with O2 today. My contract has just run out and is 1000 texts and 400 mins for £30 which I am more than happy with but either of the phones I would like to upgrade to (Sony Ericsson W850 or Samsung D900) will cost me another £50.
Both phones are free to new customers, the Samsung coming with a Bluetooth headset. If I keep my existing phone (W800) they will credit me with £100, which I am not bothered for.
The people I have spoke to (3 people in rention) have said that the decision is based on spend, as stated on here but I find that very annoying as before my contract was set as it is now, my bills were on average £70, the maximum being £115. As a result of their own tariff I'm not eligible for a new handset.
I find it very annoying as I have been with them for 4 years and have no desire to keep my custom as my spend doesn't go over my £30 contract. They are willing for me to pay £10 less a month on a £20/pm contract or credit me with that £100 but NOT give me the new phone. It's also free with other providers (Orange, Vodafone) and with Orange I could pay the same £50 and get a P990. In fact, for £35 a month you get 550 mins and unlimited texts (18 months)
Any tips at all? (of convincing O2 to give my a new phone)0
