I tried this out on Monday but initially got absolutely nowhere on my current £19 a month tariff. I stated that I could go to Orange and get a free Nokia N73 with 75mins and 600 texts for £25 a month but they would not budge. The most they would offer me was a free bolt on of an extra 400 texts a month, and if I wanted the N73 it would cost me £179.99 (available on a new contract for £59.99)!!

I asked for my PAC and they said no problem!!!

I then decided to send an email to Customer Services complaining about the fact that new customers were treated much better than long standing ones. I copied the email to the directors office as well.

I received an email reply a few hours later from customer Services stating that they were sorry they could not assist me but if I wanted to cancel my contract at the end of my current contract to simply reply!

About an hour later I received a phone call from the Directors office with a very different approach. They apologised for any inconvenience caused and stated that since i had quoted a valid and verifiable offer from another company the customer advisor should have agreed to match it! The guy also stated that they were trying to push this to Customer Services so that business would not be lost!! He asked if I was happy enough to stay if I got the N73 or did I require ANYTHING else to keep me with O2.

End result - I have a new free Nokia N73 on the way to me on my current tariff.
I tried this and didn't even get a reply!
Never argue with an idiot. They bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Was on mobileshop cashback deal 12mths contract with free line rental. Contract expires in a couple weeks.

    200 xnet / 100 text £30pm

    Just rang retentions dept for PAC code and was offered;

    500 xnet / 500 text £20pm plus £100 credit or new phone. (12mths contract)
    100 xnet / 100 text £10pm plus £100 credit or new phone. (12mths contract)

Wanted D900 but they want extra £49.99 and would obviously lose the £100 credit.

Any one know if this is a good deal?

Those are pretty standard retention deals. You will get better deals with cashback with 3 or other providors but for non-cashback contracts they are good deals

    Hiya Cashbash,

I dialed 100 from my mobile then pressed 2 (cancel existing contract) then 2 again (cancel contract or request PAC code).

    100-2-2

    Good luck with your negotiations.

Let us know how you get on coz I still need to do something with my contract. Just wondering what deal they will offer.

  • i have 2 phones with 02 ... both on the o2 discount 500+500 from last year .

rang 2 weeks ago .. they wouldn't budge from £25 a month to stay on same package but would give free phone of the d900 type/range.
Said i would think about it but probably cancel. They said ok.

rang yesterday to try again ... guy very quickly gave in to the £20 a month ..
but wouldn't do the phones at under £49. ... and very adamant that was last/best offer for both contracts .
I bluntly said i was aware of better offers .. he didn't care.

Asked for pac codes .. he said fine and goodbye !

Do hope they contact me ! as i really do want to stay with them.

I see my thread is still going strong...Not been on for a while!

Ok, send an e-mail to peter.erskine@o2.co.uk and explain that you would like to remain on the same deal as last year. Peter is the Chief Exec of O2, one of his senior customer relations team will call you back to discuss!

    Worth a shot!

Will try and update you but am un-sure now as to whether to stay with O2.

Have heard that a couple of retailers in West London (MicroLine & MicroHard) are offerring the following deal in-store:

£4.99 a month on a 12month 3 contract with a free SE K610i handset. Tariff is 800 X-Net minutes for the first 3-months then 400 X-Net minutes thereafter. I think it is via cashback by popping into the store.

Called O2 today requesting a PAC code and was offered the same retention deals.

Went for the 500 xnet minutes deal @ £20 per month.
Was advised that it is 1000 xnet minutes for the first 6 months.

Also, went for a new handset, SE K800i, for £80 which I popped into my local O2 store to purchase.

(Was also offered the SE W810i for £50 or the SE W850i for £50).
