O2 New Retention Tariff Discount 500 / Discount 750

Phoned to renew my Online 200 contract -- 200 mins, 500 txts (£30/month) -- a day into the 11th month. I've had the contract for 3 years, and have dutifully renewed via the upgrade option, rather than via retentions.
What a difference a key press makes: On selecting retentions and presenting £30/month offers from Orange and Three, I was offered 500 mins 500 text for £20 on a 12 month contract or 750 min 750 txts for £20 on a 18 month contract. Quite happy with 500txts/500min, and since 0800, 0845 and 0870 nos can be used against inclusive mins, the call allowance is more valuable than those offered by Orange and Three. Also mins can be used for video calls.
Onto the phone: wanted a Nokia n80, and was initially offered the phone for £129.99; the 02 website offers it for £99 to new customers. Apparently cost is based on average bill over the last 6 months...with ~£35/month over that period, argued that the phone should be £99...but, without much further ado, it was offered for £79. So, took the deal, and have saved £120 on line rental, £50 on the phone, and have increased my inclusive mins by 300 mins.. quite happy, and all thanks to the contributors to this website!
When are you due to receive your phone?
Interesting!! You have just described exactly the same procedures as mine over Friday/Saturday last week (7th/8th July).
But this is where I am quite annoyed and where it's gone horribly wrong!!!
I was promised delivery of my lovely new N80 on 11th/12th July at my works address, so I today checked on the o2 website to track my order. No sign of it at all. I phoned o2 and after 3 phone calls with them today it appears that the 'system' went down on Saturday - just after I ordered!! (yep that old chestnut!) and everything was getting done manually. My order had been placed and there were a few more things to check up but they would ring me back. They never. I rang them back. They then promised to ring me back - they did 5 hours later. So now its all been placed, checked, double checked etc. But now the phone that had my name on it on Saturday is now out of stock. Might be back in stock tomorrow (due delivery date) but there's a waiting list! So I don't know when I am due to receive my lovely new phone.
I have been a loyal and reliable customer for the past 3 years.
I had to request that they do not take pay for the phone on my July bill as I mightn't even have it! What a cheek!!! Still going to bill me when I didn't even receive the phone!
Any ideas what I should do?
The thing is - I would never have found this out if I hadn't checked my online account and called customer services.
Not a happy bunny!
The usual excellent MSE advice would come in very handy tonight as I am calling them again tomorrow!
Cheers y'all!

I have been on o2 pay up front contract/pay&go for about 4-5 years originally started at £50 per year for 50 mins o2 and uk landlines per month anything over i was billed via direct debit.
2 Years ago this changed to upfront 75 where I had to pay £120 a year for new handset and 75 mins again o2 or landline per month any other calls or texts billed per month.
Now my problem is that I feel this is not a brilliant offer any longer as kids on 02 active sims and top up £10 a month get 300 free texts or 100 mins but obviously no handset upgrade unlike me.
anyone any better ideas for me to upgrade getting more for my money but ideally want to stay with hanset upgrades and no more than £10- £15 per month. Also if I come off my upfront package I will never be allowed back on it again so i am very cautious about releasing it although its not as good as many others out there, eg anytime mins, x-net, or texts inc.
My contract ends this month so I am keen to get any help here I can.
Thanks in advance

Wow, O2 were pretty good to deal with.
Called up (paying 40/month) - 12 month contract up in a few days.
Initially regular offers, but asking for PAC code trigged the call to retentions.
Explained typical usage which was matched (325 textx + 50 mins) for 9 pcm, and £100 credited to my account. I could have taken a phone, maybe could have dealt further but that will do the trick.
Wow... good one O2.
Actually of all the networks recently whenever I've called them they've been good (Orange has gone abysmal, three has improved since launch). I felt as if I was talkiing to someone who cared/knew what they were doing.....
I'm just inclined to switch from 3 to O2 next time my contract is up (not helped by poor Orange/3 coverage where I am... it's only O2 that saves the day for 3)What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
My mum phoned o2 to sort out an upgrade. Thing is the contract was up in march, but has only jsut got round to sorting it out. When trying to haggle for a better deal they really wouldnt budge at all. Havnt spoken to retentions yet. Are they not budging because the 12 months were up a few months back, or beacause she wasnt talking to retentions. Any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!0

Went through to retentions on Sunday 9th July, and within an hour of receiving email confirmation of the upgrade I received a second email indicating that there was no stock of the n80. Received a second such email this morning, followed by an email this evening indicating that the n80 has shipped. On those grounds, I suspect you should be receiving similar despatch notification soon too if the backorder list is, in fact, fair.
As for the charge for the phone, I was told it would apply after my current contract expires. We shall see...0 -
As a low usage user O2 retentions quoted me £179 as the handset price of a Nokia N80 and offered me half price on a o2 50 contract, they now say that the handset price has gone up (but aren't sure of the price) and that if I take the half price contract it will go against me if I wish to upgrade next year, as the handset price is based upon my usage.
I am not keen on moving to Orange as I am not sure of how successfully their software works with this phone.
I was also advised that a o2 shop may be able to help as they have different offers which would enable me to keep my mobile number.
Does anyone have any suggestions or comments?0 -
Can anyone be of assistance with my post #1043 in this thread

shelly wrote:I'm not 100% sure but I don't think they will do much for you before month 17. Maybe it will be cheaper for you to get a text bolt on for the next 6 months. Or you could work out what your bills will be for the next 6 months and it might be cheaper for you to pay to get out of the contract early and start a new one.
Thanks for your reply Shelly, I guess I'll have to do that. Although i've noticed this on the CPW site:To change your tariff, call your service provider's customer service number:
O2 0870 111 7200
2. Confirm with a customer service agent what will be the most suitable tariff based on your usage.
3. Once you have chosen the correct tariff, the customer service agent will change it for you as per your request.
4. Your tariff change will become effective from the date your new minutes are allocated each month. Each bill cycle is different, so if you don't already know, ask the agent to confirm the dates for you.
5. You are able to lower your tariff after 6 months into a new contract, but you can raise your tariff at any time.
6. You can change your plan up or down once a month, so if you find that the one you're on doesn't suit your needs, it can always be changed to one that does.
7. Any rollover mins you have accumulated will be lost when a plan change is done.
So by the looks of it I can lower my tarriff to the cheapest one? But will the contract start over again? Or carry on from month 12 to month 18?0 -
Hi dannyboy20. Sorry, I have just re-read the post I replied to, I must have missed the fact you got your contract from 02 via CPW. From reading other posts on this thread 02 retentions won't do much for you as your contract is effectively with CPW, 02 is just the network provider. Apparently you get much better retention deals if you cut out and middle man, in your case CPW and deal with 02 directly. Not really sure what you can do but give them a call and ask them what you have asked here.
Sorry I can't be more help.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0
