  • Having watched this thread closely over the last month, I thought I'd contribute my own recent experience.

Phoned to renew my Online 200 contract -- 200 mins, 500 txts (£30/month) -- a day into the 11th month. I've had the contract for 3 years, and have dutifully renewed via the upgrade option, rather than via retentions.

What a difference a key press makes: On selecting retentions and presenting £30/month offers from Orange and Three, I was offered 500 mins 500 text for £20 on a 12 month contract or 750 min 750 txts for £20 on a 18 month contract. Quite happy with 500txts/500min, and since 0800, 0845 and 0870 nos can be used against inclusive mins, the call allowance is more valuable than those offered by Orange and Three. Also mins can be used for video calls.

Onto the phone: wanted a Nokia n80, and was initially offered the phone for £129.99; the 02 website offers it for £99 to new customers. Apparently cost is based on average bill over the last 6 months...with ~£35/month over that period, argued that the phone should be £99...but, without much further ado, it was offered for £79. So, took the deal, and have saved £120 on line rental, £50 on the phone, and have increased my inclusive mins by 300 mins.. quite happy, and all thanks to the contributors to this website!
  • i've just signed up to a new deal with the k800i for 69.99 ...

£10 per month for 100 x net mins and 300 texts,

i'm kinda thinking i might have made a mistake with this though as i want some gprs usage .. and also maybe more mins...

do you think they would match the tmobile web and walk or have i blown it by accepting it?

btw the phone is brilliant ... truely a great phone.

do you think if i said i would go up a fiver or so they'll give me more mins and gprs?

    Thats a good deal!!

Its not a good idea to use your e-mail address as your name, you should change that when you get a chance.

I am currently getting 200mins and 500 texts for £15 but fear this offer will run out when my contract expires in two weeks. I havent been going over my line rental much so im not in as good bargaining position as I was last year.

I would quite like the LG chocolate, can anyone provide any examples of tmobile/ orange similar price plans which I can use to barter a good deal with o2 rententions, many thanks.

    Hi all,

I currently have a W800i on an 18 month contract through CPW on O2. I'm now in my 12 month of the contract.

I'm on the O2 200 tarriff and paying £30 a month for 200 mins and 100 texts. My phone bills are around the £50, £60 and £70 mark though due to me using texts (i hardly ever call people, just text). It's getting to the point where I cannot afford to pay the bills.

Would I be able to take advantage of this O2 Retention discount? I would like to either downgrade my tarriff to a cheaper one, or at least get more texts. Also would I be able to get a new phone (namely K800i). If I do downgrade or get a new phone, will my contract "reset"? Or will I still be in the 12 month of an 18 month contract?

    Any advice would be appreciated

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think they will do much for you before month 17. Maybe it will be cheaper for you to get a text bolt on for the next 6 months. Or you could work out what your bills will be for the next 6 months and it might be cheaper for you to pay to get out of the contract early and start a new one.

I threw some Three and Orange Deals at O2 retentions and after a bit of haggling they came up wit the offer below:

I have just got a 12 month contract, with 530 xnet, anytime mins and 500 texts for £20, with the SE W810i (chose this over K800i as its is smaller, lighter, has removable 512mb memory unlike the k800i, but before you all start I know the camera is 1.2mp better!!).

Not a bad deal in my opinion

I asked them to match Three's offer on the K800i and they came back with the offer above but said i would have to pay for the phone (£79). So i asked if they could give me the same tariff, at the same price for 12 months on the W810i and they said yes.

    Easy as that
