EDF Energy Online customers - BE AWARE!!!

I joined EDF online V1 in March 2005, on 6 Feb 2008 had the letter about the increase. Not happy with the increase but we've had it so good, to think how much we have saved in almost 3 years compared to other providers. Yes it was good whilst it lasted.
I have signed up to BGAS Click Energy for electricity going via QuidCo (though ensure you have all the details to hand otherwise if you are a little slow at entering the details you get sent to a confirmation page too early without them taking DD / payment details and emailing you).
For Gas we are going with Ebico as this is a single rate with no standing charge and there are many many months where we use little gas other than cooking and running a hot water tap, there was Sparks but they had a two tier system which would work out dearer for us.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Hi Jem
I remember following you to EDF after we had both thought about a scottish power capped tariff and had just missed out. I would have followed you on the southern price fix but my house had gone up for sale so I had decided against it.
Have sold my house and bought another today but I will be switching from EDF this time regardless !!
Yes I remember the discussion. My thought at the time was mainly around the British Gas Price Freeze 2010 but it very much more expensive in my area. Scottish Power probably would not have been much better as it's my local supplier.
London Energy (as they were) have been great but since being taken over by EDF the price has crept up. However up until a couple of weeks ago they were still cheapest.
I took a gamble this time and it has paid off big time. Hope you get sorted.0 -
We're on EDF, Online v1. Letter came yesterday.
new prices (inc VAT):
Electricity - First 225kWh 14.52p, rest 8.80p
Gas - First 1465kWh 4.035p, rest 2.537p.
We're a very high usage household.. energyhelpline and moneysupermarket both reckon I can save ~20%, nearly £400, if I were on EDF v5. But they won't change me.EDF_Energy wrote:I am afraid we cannot offer you currently the online v5 tariff. I am afraid this tariff is only available to new customers who sign up via sites such as Uswitch. We could not switch you as an existing customer between online tariffs.
I hope this has been of some help.
So I guess it's back to the comparision sites to check who was number 2...
Can I change back to EDF in a month or two, assuming they are still cheapest, and then count as a new customer?0 -
If you have changed to BG Quick 4 you had better read this and also check you will be getting what you thought you had signed up for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone,
Well I finally got the EDF letter today too - I've been on Online v4 for nearly 3 years so I've been expectingit. To be honest, like Jem16, I'm just surprised it's taken so long and we've managed to get such a decent ride out of the Online V tariffs. I wish I'd been keeping a closer eye on things and I would have signed up to the Scottish Hydro fixed priced option like you Jem! Nevermind. The V4 price hike in my area amounts to a 24% price rise so time to finally move on.
I initially was thinking of going to BGas Click 4 and taking the £60 cashback but as that's been discontinued and the Click 5 option is not at all appealing, it looks like the next best thing for me is the Eon Online Saver 5 - don't think it matters whether it's with or without the standing charge.
Last year I paid exactly £1000.93 to EDF for gas/elec and by my estimates I would pay £1061 to Eon on this tariff for the same usage this year (of course that's without taking into consideration any possible price hikes later in the year.) With the £55 cashback from quidco taken into account that would pretty much mean no change. Plus there's the tecso points to take into consideration - I would get around £40 worth of tesco deal vouchers for my kind of usage. I can't see a better deal than that - if anyone else has though let me know
I was just wondering if any Eon customers could confirm for me that the 18.1% discount you get is applied to each quarterly bill and not simply credited back annually? I'm pretty sure it is but I just want to be certain as I know some companies only apply the discount after 12 months and that's not so good if you need to switch again during the year.
I know if I phone EDF within 14 days of getting this letter and tell them I'm moving they won't apply the price hike until my transfer goes through so I think I'll wait another 10 days or so just to get the lower price for that time and to see if anything else does pop up. I doubt it will though as E-on have already done their price hike.
Regards

That is where I am thinking of going after the EDF price rise, I signed up with British Gas yesterday but I am cancelling that on Monday after their Click 4 price rises today, that makes them more expensive than staying with EDF. I too would like to know if the EON discounts are applied quarterly rather than annually0 -

Hi Millie,
I'm almost positive they are but I was just hoping an E-on customer could confirm it 100% for me. It definitely looks like the best route to take.

Has the Eon Online definitely already had the recent price increase? or is that still likely to change shortly?0

Not that it matters but are you sure it's nearly 2 years as opposed to 3? I joined their version 3 tariff in November 2005 so that's just over 2 years. V4 didn't start until April 2006.I was just wondering if any Eon customers could confirm for me that the 18.1% discount you get is applied to each quarterly bill and not simply credited back annually? It's applied to each quarterly bill. My parents are on the Eon EnergyOnline Extra Saver plan and I monitor their account. Just signed in to look.0 -
i heard today that eon prices are on the rise monday. just keep switching and get cashback. until they stick us all with 12 m contracts.
i only pay for two out of three months that way.
also i am installing a woodburner.
its awful that for over 30 years they have been telling us about the oil and gas shortages to come and never took any action or put any profits into research of any great importance. and now are charging us for research and wind farms... these should have been built ten years ago, i am saving for my own turbinetotally debt free:j and mortgage free too 20100
