British Gas Click Energy 4 Has Been Scrapped!

I applied for this over a week ago. Currently get gas from BG. I spoke to them this morning and they said I would defo be set up on Click energy 4. However, I then read in paper that they scrapped click energy 4 yesterday. I rang BG again and spoke to a rude customer services rep who said that click energy 4 has changed to click energy 5 and prices up by 18%. First time I've attempted to switch and finding whole thing a minefield!

There is a note on moneysupermarket.com warning people not to apply for click energy 4 from now on even if it appears as your cheapest option on comparison sites.

I applied at 7:30am and the website had changed by 5:30pm phoned their help desk and they didnt even know it had changed just shows how uncoordinated they all are. The call center chap said just cancel when I get the email we will see.

  • Just had a look at the rates for both Click Energy 4 and 5, there is not much differnece but the rates have gone up massively.

In most areas the gas is starting off at 6p per unit for gas and over 20p per unit for electricity. This will now NOT be the cheapest offer by far so if you have applied for this and still in the cooling off period I would advise you cancel it immediately.

British Gas did this last year. Offered the cheapest tariff out there for a couple of months then once they had all the custom whacked the prices up catching people out and hoping people couldn't be bothered switching away again. Sneeky

I say play them at their own game, once 60.00 cashback is paid in april, switch away from them immediately and get another cashback for following switch. ;)

Gambler Are you sure you are comparing the latest click energy 4 prices against click 5 prices? The links to the latest pices are on this post at post 42 and 43.

I think that eon put all their prices up on Friday.
    Regards

I have just switch to V5 with Eon I can see the prices and cant believe they introduce this the same day they raise the prices on the V4 which is only a few weeks old so dramatically. I did think about continuing with the BG Click 4 and taking the £60 and then transferring especially if weather warms up a little my usage will drop anyway and the £60 through Quidco will more then balance out the increase short term. I dont normally switch like that but it serves them wright.

  • All: I signed upto this plan last Sunday - 3rd - but haven't got a copy of terms and conditions. I assume I can cancel as its within the normal 7 day cool off period, any thoughts?

I've just checked with Energyhelpline.com and they told me that if you signed up with BG for their Click 4 prior to Friday the 8th Feb. then you will still get the Click 4 Tariff. This also applies if you used Energyhelpline.com (and probably other switching companies) to transfer you from your current supplier to BG.
  • Thanks for this info -decided to scout around today and out of interest used 4 comparison sites -2 came out with Bgas click 4 and the other 2 were e-on (which was 2nd on the other sites) - couldnt find click 4 on bgas site so wondered if missing something -surely the comparison sites should have updated though.
energyhelpline and uswitch were the ones that are on the ball -tesco and moneysupermarket gave me the bgas info.

I would have done this prior to Friday but I was waiting on the letter from EDF
