I've just spotted the catch with BG's Click Energy 4 tariff. It didn't increase in January; the tariff pdf on BG's site shows it as from 11 Oct 2007.

So everyone's piling into this tariff believing that BG have recently had their price increase, but it's just a trick! They'll shaft everybody with a massive increase sooner or later.

    Geoff

That point has been made several times on MSE recently.

In the past BG were always the first in the price increase round, and lost lots of customers switched - often jumping from frying pan into fire!!

Seems like BG have learnt their lesson and will hold the prices on Click 4 for a while; but it is inevitable that the prices will rise soon; the question is when? and by how much?

If BG become more expensive, people can switch away from BG and claim another switch cashback. ;)

Part of me is extremely angry and the other part of me is very, very happy.

I arranged to switch from Online v3 on the 18th December to Hydro Electric Price Fix 2008. All was going well and EDF announced their price rises in January - great thought I until someone posted on here that the Online traiffs were not affected.

I phoned up EDF to see how it would affect me as i was due to switch about 10 days after EDF's price rises. I was told specifically that the online tariffs were not affected - I didn't ask, they told me. I almost decided to cancel the switch but they couldn't guarantee it would not go up before the end of November which is when my price fix is till.

Today, although I'm no longer with EDF(switched on 29th January) I got the letter informing me of the increases.

As for now being in line with the standard tariffs I suspected this would happen once EDF took over London Energy.

Still it was good whilst it lasted.
  • I had my letter today and have just completed my switch to British Gas, Quidco has been validated for £60 already and I only finished filling the online form in an hour ago. If British Gas raise their prices I will switch back to the V5 tarriff with EDF, after I have had the £60 Quidco, that should compensate me for the price difference if they do raise them

    Amen to that!

As we have discussed over the last couple of years, the surprise was it took so long.

    True.

However my new tariff is only £4.36 dearer over the whole year than my EDF Online tariff and it's fixed until end November. So that will be 3 years on nice low prices. ;)

    Hi Jem

I remember following you to EDF after we had both thought about a scottish power capped tariff and had just missed out. I would have followed you on the southern price fix but my house had gone up for sale so I had decided against it.

Have sold my house and bought another today but I will be switching from EDF this time regardless !!
