They usually do try to "save" you when you speak to them to give in your notice. But their retention offers can usually easily be beaten by coming back as a new customer via a cashback site or going elsewhere

They then take your decision to cancel and don't subsequently pester you with phone calls.

Do these guys EVER pick up??? It's always "sorry we're too busy and can't answer your call. Go online"

RAGE! I've been out of contract for a month and they've deleted my loyalty discount that I was assured didn't have any end date.

Leave then. You don't owe O2 anything and loyalty doesn't mean anything as you've found out.

Are you after a new contract with a phone or are you looking to go sim only? How much minutes/data do you need?

If you have this in writing, then why not write to them, send them a copy and ask them to honour it and take it from their reply?

(You were lucky to get this "for ever"!)

If this was only verbal, ask them to send you a transcript of the conversation when you agreed to accept the "loyalty discount" on exchange for a new minimum contract.

Finally got through to them today. The loyalty discount was only applied for 12 months. However they offered to renew the contract for 12-months with unlimited texts and calls and 500MB data for £15.50/month on my existing iPhone 4.

If only I didn't want an iPhone 5...

I'll probably end up taking the £26/month iPhone 5 contract with an upfront cost of £250. Not particularly moneysaving!!

Unless there's any better offers. Need ~300 minutes, lots of texts and at least 500MB data (pref 1GB as I go over it and end up paying extra quite a lot!)

o2 contract expires at the end of the month. Currently on:

    250 mins
    unlimited texts
24 months @ £10.50 (included a free phone at the time)

just called up o2 retentions and was offered phone upgrade choice of Galaxy Ace 2, Blackberry 9320, HTC One Z or HTC Desire C and same contract details + 100mb data for £13.50 p/m, 24 months

Tried to haggle but they weren't budging. Didn't take it as I thought that it was weak considering that I'm paying an extra £3 a month for a small amount of data for another 2 years and getting no loyalty discount.

Am I wrong? Does anything think it's worth calling up to haggle once more?

My other option is perhaps finding a SIMO deal with cashback (quick search shows Orange at about £6 p/m with 50 more mins and 400mb more data) and buying a smart phone on the cheap. Could probably save a bit of money doing this but would rather avoid the hassle

in the unlikely event that I do go for the upgrade, which of the 4 phones is the best?

They offered my OH the same deal, alas she agreed, hopefully she can cancel today under the 7 day distance selling without any problems

They wouldn't do me a decent deal so I cancelled and

    I moved to Tesco £12.50 a month 750mins, 500 texts, 1GB data, brought a Galaxy Ace for £100.

Or £12.50 x 24 months 250mins 500mb data 5000 texts and get the phone thrown in.
  • My contract ended on the 20th. I want to move to a simplicity tariff. Is it worth going through to retentions to see if they will offer me a better deal than what is on the internet?

I am interested in the £16.50 a month 12 month tariff.

I tried the other day, and even told them that what they were offering was the same deal as could be got on the internet by anyone, but they wouldn't offer me anything different to the internet offers. I've been with them for 10 years (bt cellnet days), alas not for much longer i asked for and recieved my pac code, just waiting for my new giffgaff sim now.

I really didn't want to leave as i will miss the priority moments, but moneysaving has to come first and better deals can be had by all the other mobile companies

It really does seem like o2 is the only one that doesn't do "loyalty deals" for existing customers.
  • My contracts up and will be giving them a call tonight to see what they offer me. If nothing decent then ill be moving to Three.

£12.50 30 day rolling sim only
    200 min
    5000 texts
    Unlimited data
