Can you explain how you managed this (mentioning of any other offers, etc.)? Obviously, my bargaining skills have taken a bit of a turn for the worse. This is what I was offered when I called today:

    500min,
    Unlimited Texts,
    500MB Data,
£37 per month for 12 months,
    £165.90 handset cost for iPhone 4S 16GB.

    hi just seen this
I mentioned the tesco deal and they offered me the same deal with £130 for the handset

I have also moaned a little and asked for a free iphone case and some screen protectors

they said fine and to go buy some from the O2 shop and email in a scan of the receipt for credit back to my account

approx £30 extra worth of goodies free for the new phone :T

Thanks for the update. I called again, but O2 are not budging from the £165 cost of the handset. :( Will most probably take the offer.

I've been with O2 for over two years - I was previously on a £35 a month contract for an old iPhone which ran out a few months ago - since then I have dropped down to a rolling month to month contract for £15 while I decided what phone and tariff I wanted next. Well my screen has broken on my iPhone over the weekend so I have decided on getting a Samsung Galaxy SII.

Surfed the internet and found the best deal online with T-Mobile through Tesco for £20.43 a month, free phone with 300mins/300txt/500mb. O2 upgrades as many have said are useless (offer me £27 a month which was more expensive than what new O2 customers could find online) but I was quickly put through to retentions after mentioning the T-Mobile/Tesco deal. They quickly offered me £21.50 with 200mins/UNLtxt/500mb on 24 months with a free Galaxy SII which is similar to what you can find online but still not quite as good as the tesco deal.

I would prefer to stay with O2 as the reception has been mostly fine for me and I have had no problems with customer service and T-Mobiles reception is a bit of an unknown. However as a typical Brit I struggle to pay on principle more for less - even if it is only slightly more. What are people's opinions on this deal? Would I be likely to squeeze anymore out of O2 like a reduced contract? Even if it was just something like free O2 to O2 calls or free accessories to help me convince myself I am not being taken for a ride. I haven't actually asked them for my PAC code yet.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance for any responses.

EDIT: as the big sign on the left points out I am a newbie so forgive as I forgot to point out that 300 texts are more than enough for me - I am unlikely to send an average of 10 messages a day over a month ever - so the unlimited texts and 300 texts wouldn't be much different to me in reality unless some unforeseen disaster that required numerous texts were to occur.

Try via web chat that yielded the extras and the deal sweeteners
  • Just to update - spoke to O2 again this afternoon. Went through to their disconnections department and the lad I spoke to their said they were unable to offer me additional minutes so I asked about free O2 to O2 calls and he put me through to a very helpful lady in the retentions team. After I explained my situation and the other tesco/tmobile offer she said they would be to offer me the 200/ULT/500 deal with unlimited O2 to O2 calls and an additional 200 cross network minutes however she said the handset on that tariff is £104. However after politely explaining that Phones4U offer it free of charge on O2's £21.50 tariff, she checked their website and confirmed this and so said they can offer the handset free of charge with the extras she had previously offered, so I decided to go with it as I wasn't particularly keen in leaving O2 anyway and with the additional minutes I can convince the scrooge in me that it was worth the extra £1.08p!

So overall I got a free Samsung Galaxy SII on a 24 month contract, 200 minutes, unlimited texts, 500 mb data, unlimited O2 to O2 calls and an additional 200 cross network minutes. Overall I am quite satisfied with the deal. :)
  • I just upgraded to:

    12 month contract
    1200 minutes any network
500mb web bolt on + 20 free picture messages
    unlimited o2 to o2 calls
    unlimited text
    unlimited calls to landlines
    £52 per month
    £209 for Iphone 4s 64 gb.

    Previously I was on

    18 Month Contract
    1200 minutes any network
    unlimited o2 to o2 minutes
    unlimited web bolt on
    1000 texts per month
    £45 per month.

I think I'm happy with this, especially if i can persuade my cousin to put through his staff discount for me!

The idea is that after 12 months, I can upgrade again and sell the handset which should still be worth a few bob i hope!
  • Hi all, I'm a newbie to the forums, love the site and thought I'd share this;

Just upgraded the other day with the O2 shop to an iphone 4s 16g - previously on a 24mth contract with Carphone Warehouse 3gs 16g (far too long a contract for me) I was being bombarded by phone calls from the Carphone Warehouse - several calls a day - and the deal didn't seem that great.

    O2 Shop
    12mth contract - £90 for phone.
1200 minutes, unlimited texts, usual 02 to O2 free calls etc £52 per month (I use for work as well as personal).
    £714 total for the 12mths.

The staff at the shop were excellent and they even double checked the price to ensure it went through the till.

It's only £5 more than I was paying, I've halved the contract and I paid £80 for the 3gs at the time.

Loving the new phone, so much faster! :T
  • Hi all,

Been following this thread for a few weeks in preparation for my upgrade with o2. Called yesterday and got:

    iPhone 4s 16Gb
    12 month contract
    800 anytime any network minutes
    Unlimited texts
    500Mb Data
    Unlimited free WiFi access

    £197.60 for the handset
    £35 per month

I tried to call around a few places after to see if I could start a cheeky bidding war but nobody was playing the game. In fact the guy at Carphone Warehouse accused me of lying! ;)
  • Thought I'd provide an update to my efforts on a retention deal... so, I went for the simplicity plan as follows:

    300 Minutes
    500MB Data
    Unlimited Texts
    Free O2 to O2 calling

    for £11.50/month.

I think the best thing about this deal is that I can upgrade anytime when the new "phone" comes out... and also, if I feel that for a specific month, 300 minutes are not going to be enough, I can call and upgrade the plan for just one month.
