Anyone know whether you're likely to get better retention deals in the summer or around Christmas? This was my first year on an 18month contract so my renewal date moved from January to June.
Admittedly I'm looking for the elusive HTC Desire, and it sounds like there aren't many deals out there on it, certainly not compared to what I've been on (on an old phone!)
Not happy about the loss of the 1text = 4 credits for text messages from abroad. That was always useful and living in northern ireland, the mobile networks don't quite line up with the border so it's easy to end up connected to a network down south without knowing or wanting to be, and then having to pay for it!
*grumble* Anyway, off to make my first retention call.#96 of the Norn Iron Club

I'll just add to the "what a waste of my time" posts.
I told them I hardly used the phone and wanted a relatively cheap internet phone: HTC Smart, 300 minutes, unlimited texts, "unlimited" mobile internet - £25 per month, 24 month contract. More money, less minutes, bad phone and not much better than the offers on the web.
I'll take my PAC thank you very much.0 -
Just requested my PAC code too.
I only need ~150 mins/150 texts. Would consider a sim only deal.
This is what "retentions" offered:
£10 - 100 mins/unlimited texts - 30 day contract - SIM ONLY
£15 - 300 mins/unlimited texts - 30 day contract - SIM ONLY
£10 - 300 mins/unlimited texts - 12 month contract - SIM ONLY
Nokia 6303 (Lowest spec phone they do apparently)
£15 - 100+200* mins/unlimited - 24 month contract
*bonus!?
I guess they have too many customers right now.
I think I'll take a look at some of the cash back offers - any recommendations?0 -

Seemingly, as O2's 'retention' offers are the same as what you see online, they have a 'fair customer' policy now, which means new and current customers all get the same deals. They have, seemingly, added in the customer loyalty discount into the new tariffs....... yeah, right, that still doesn't make the current deals anywhere near as good as any of the deals I've had in the past.
If you're on an old contract, you can really really push them to add bolt-ons instead of changing to a new tariff. For example say I wanted to keep my 400mins, 1000texts per month (inclusive of the 1 abroad text = 4 credits), this was on the old online 30, so it will soon change to £30per month from £15/month. They will add on the £5 data bolt on (so £35/month) and then a one-off £100 for HTC desire handset (this is from having an old non-smartphone). But unfortunately that works out more expensive than any of their simplicity or contracts......meaning keeping hold of the 1 text=4credits isn't worth it. :-(
I'd like to stay with o2 as their data limit is better than the other networks, and I had fabulous 'normal' coverage worldwide. I'd only think about changing to Vodafone or Orange because of where I live -- orange deals look much more expensive, so will check out Vodafone more.
Unless anyone knows of any good cashback offers or better deals than O2 :-(
I can only see the tariffs getting worse, so a simplicity tariff may be the way to go - get it now at the current price before it goes up (in the future) and then if things improve and O2 starts to think about customer loyalty again, then it should be 'easy' to switch to a brilliant pay monthly contract....... well here's dreaming!#96 of the Norn Iron Club

Is this a good deal
18 month contract, 400 cross network min
1000 text, Free O2 2 O2 calls
£150 credit as no phone required
all for £15/month0 -

If the £15 p/m is after factoring in the £150 then it is not a good deal as you can pick up sim only for less with more minutes.
However if the actual cost of the sim is (£15 x 18 - £150)/18 = £6.67 p/m then it is a good deal IMO.0 -
Any other better deal ?0

I'm tempted to state t-mobile?
If you go through quidco, get £80 cashback, pay £15 a month for 24 months. So 11.67 a month net.
Get an Internet phone such as Samsung Galaxy Portal, get free internet, 300 minutes, 300 texts. On top of this get a free add on, could be unlimited texts, free landliine calls, free calls t-mobile to t-mobile.
I think the current t-mobile deals beat what seems to be offered on O2 retentions, I'm up for renewal with o2, and by what everyone else has been offered it will be please can i have my PAC code.
We are on O2 broadband with a fiver off, but we have a second mobile with CPW O2 on 250 texts 250 minutes for a £5, which as I understand will continue forever. So I can use that instead.
Pity because I have been quite happy with O2 and previously always offered good deals....0 -

Have o2 stopped doing 1txt = 4 credits for roaming txts? Or is this only for certain types of tariffs?__________________________________
