Got a letter through from O2 saying I am entitled to an upgrade now, even though my contract doesn't run out until end of September 09. I am currently on O2 35 with 600 Minutes 500 Texts & Unlimited Mobile Data.

Now I was interested in the rumoured new iPhone, that doesn't exist and won't exist to quote O2. So I called them to see. They have offered me either:

    £150 Credit to my account.

    £155.61 for the iPhone 3G 16GB on 18Mth £35
    £57.74 for the iPhone 3G 16GB on 24Mth £35

Or switch to Simplicity 1 month contract now on the £19.58/Month tariff with 600 minutes, 1200 texts and unlimited Web.

Debating just switching to Simplicity and saving £15/Mth and when/if the new iPhone launches just move from Simplicity to a new iPhone tariff.

What's the thoughts will I be able to do that, or should I hold fire?

    Hi Steve,

I am in a similar position to you Mate, I have been on contract with them for 5 years, and last week moved to the Simplicity deal that you mention.

I considered moving to T-mobile, as they do there Sim only monthly 30 day contract with,

    600 mins
    Unlimited texts
    Unlimited web

    £20

I asked o2 to match it or add Unlimited texts they would not budge on it. And I know they say they can't discount it!

They said if you stay with us at least you still have your " 5 years loyalty " So if in a month or so's time you want a " New " Contract we can offer you a top deal based on your " Loyalty " I would ring them Mate and confirm that they will let you keep your loyalty before you make a decision.

Hope this sheds some light Mate!!

    Regards,

And there was me hoping they'd match T-mobile's £15 sim only deal.

I'm currently on the 600 min/600 txt/web bolt-on Simplicity deal but I'm wanting to downgrade to the £15 one, still keeping the web-bolt on somehow though. Highly unlikely now I guess as it seems O2 don't do any form of discount/deals with Simplicity.

Hi, I was on the phone for like half an hour with retentions, and they would not budge. I am used to the " Haggling " business having done it four times before! Tried all except requesting my Pac code. With it being Simplicity I took it for the time being, told the guy on the phone I could get T-Mobile deal £20 a month with all o2 offer but with Unlimited texts, still would not budge.

A friend of mine had the N95 when it first come out, £45 a month, when his contract was nearly ending they phoned him up asking him to upgrade, he told them he wanted the Simplicity £15 a month, they said OK, but they would not do anything for him discount wise. He requested his Pac code ( But did not use it ) And 3 days later they phoned him up and told him he could have the deal at £10 for the first 6 months then it'd go back to £15.

I told them this, and as you can imagine they stated that they can't/don't do that. But they did!

It's a big gamble if you've been a Pay Monthly customer like me, as if you call their bluff this way, as if they don't phone you, and you leave, you would lose your loyalty. But.............. As long as you don't use the Pac code you will still remain with o2.

I'm thinking of leaving myself.:confused:

Well if I can't get 350mins, atleast 300 texts and a web bolt-on for £15 or below I might just leave. I don't fancy getting out a 18 month contract for this either.

An update ... I'd requested my PAC last Saturday because I couldn't get a c905 for £20 month with 600m 1000t and web bolt on, reading around it looks like that's an impossible deal to get unless you REALLY luck in so I phoned back today first thing before work (8.05) and got myself a refurbished blackberry bold 9000 on that tariff which is soon to be in various classifieds\ebay listings. In fact I got 2 as my wife's tariff is up too. We were on discounted simplicity plans (£10 down from £15 for 100m and 200t) so I'm pretty pleased. Only need to decide whether to keep our ageing k810i phones, actually use the BBs, or choose something different (getting freaked out about the c905 failure reports now ... booo!).

    Good Deal!!

You say you are on " Discounted " Simplicity plans?? How did you manage to get that?? That's what I tried to get from them but they would not budge! Any tactics on how I may get this??

    Thanks in advance,

    I was on 200 mins/200 texts for £30 p.m., 12 month contract.

Thanks to this site I got:-

    200 mins/400 texts for £10 p.m., £150 credit, 18 month contract, effectively £30 for 18 months = £1.66 p.m.

    Brilliant.

    Thanks folks.

    Hello

Been reading back through this thread and v. impressed with everyone's deals.

I'm sure my contract is up soon-ish so getting prepared for that.

My question is that I'm with O2 but through Carphone Warehouse so my bills come from them and I'm sure it's them that I speak to about upgrading my phone.

At the risk of sounding stupid - does this mean I'm able to get the same kind of deals as on here?

I can't believe I've just been going along with the same old contract with only a few extra minutes each time. You are all far more on the ball than me!!!
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)

If you don't ask you don't get. Try speaking to o2 Retentions - you want to deal with the organ grinder not the monkey
