When you phone to cancel and say you are leaving, What deals are you saying your leaving for ?
I take it your saying your leaving and they ask what network/deal you are moving onto ?, What deals did you say your going to, for them to try and match/better ?
A couple of very good deals !! Especially "Look After The Pennies"
Hi Aletank,
I phoned and said I was leaving for the Vodafone offer which is on their website at the moment. 18 month contract, Motorola U9 phone ( but there was a choice of about 4 others) 75 mins per month and 250 texts. If you go through the Quidco website, you will get £90 cashback from Quidco. I mentioned this as well. First lady I spoke to in retentions could only match Vodafone's offer and not the cashback so I said I did not wish to renew my contract. To be honest she did not seem very helpful and it is true what the others have said on here... the offer you get depends on who you speak to. She didn't make any other suggestions on what o2 could offer me. Anyway, I was told to write an email to o2 disconnections confirming that I did not wish to renew my contract which I promptly did. However the next day I received a text from o2 saying that I would have to write an email or letter confirming that I wished to cancel. I then phoned up disconnections again to say why had I received the text when I had already sent an email. He said they had definitely received the email and he asked what kind of offer would I accept to stay. I said I wanted a £15 month tariff, £90 cashback and a better phone than what Vodafone offered. I liked the limited edition Sony Eriksson Mocha Phone but I could only have that on the £20 per month tariff (18 month tariff) and I couldn't really afford the extra £5 per month as trying to save up hard this year!! I then said that I only wanted to pay £15 so I wanted to continue with the disconnection. Thats when he said that if I kept my handset, he could make me a better offer....0 -
Just rang O2.
Was in the last month of my £25/mth contract with 175 mins anytime and 750 texts.
Ended up settling for no new hand set but for £10/mth he could do 200 mins anytime/ 400 texts/ unlimited O2 to O2 calls on an 18/mth contract but FREE £150 credit on my account so free for 15/mths then £10 month for the last 3 months and then I can cancel.
I think ive done very well0 -
People are getting amazing deals! Hubby is going to ring o2 tomorrow as we are nearing the end of our contract. Well our teenager uses it but it is in my husbands name. We are after loads of minutes but not bothered about a handset.
Please can anyone confirm what number we ring for retentions from the o2 phone. Thanks.0 -
Magic,
Read my deal post before yours.
I was also offered 400mins and 1000 texts plus unlimited 02 to 02 calls for £15/mth (No New Handset) with a £150 credit on my account so it was free for 10 months then £15/mth for the remaining 8 months.
Push for that.0 -
Thanks Cz420uk I'll post back later with (hopefully) a good result.:D0

So, you were originally, not on a contract, i.e. simplicity. & You were still able to go through to retentions and get such a cracking deal?
yeah, although ive been with them a few years, when my last contract ran out (august time) i rang and said i didnt want a new phone etc and was going to go on simplicity, they said i could do that via them and still keep my number and loyalty until im ready to go to contract again and it worked :cheesy:0 -
Hi All,
My first ever post so please be gentle!!!
i've read alot of the 02 retentions post that is in this forum but have a pretty specific question so any help is much appreciated.
I 've been with o2 for the past three years, always on the same contract. I currently pay 30 quid for 200 min and 400 txt. not very good i know on a 12 month contract.
current handset is a w880i.
Now my contract is up at the end of next month and i want an 8800 arte. preferably on a 12 month contract.
Now i just spoke to the standard upgrade line and they told me that i would be "best on a 18 month £45 contract with the web bolt on thrown in for free with 1200 min and a thousand txt" i think.
but the arte would still cost me approx £300.
now i'm not exactly a low spender - i use my phone for work and claim alot of my calls back - my last few bills have come in at £191, £117, £73, £65, £43, £63 and £103.
a quick look around the internet finds me the arte on orange on a 12 month contract for £45.
do you think o2 retentions will do me a decent deal or am i best off running?
and can anyone provide the correct retentions number please?
thanks in advance for your help and opinions!

Hiya,
There is no harm in trying but i very much doubt it.
on every tariff and contract length the ARTE has a price.
retentions number dial 202 if consumer from handset this is foc,
if select then it is 402 also foc you will go through to customer services who will put you through to retentions.

I wanted a new handset, was on Online 25 £25 per month, got a Black Nokia 6500, 200 any network minutes plus unlimited O2 to O2 minutes, 400 texts, free O2 broadband and line rental reduced to £15 a month, great result I reckon. 18 month contract, but that doesn't bother me.
Brilliant thread, wouldn't have known about Retentions without it :TNorn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0 -
When my contract ran out last October I went from £25 a month to the sim only £15 a month and monthly contract for 200 anytime minutes, 200 texts, unlimited O2 to O2 calls and some web usage but no phone. My DH's contract ran out last week and he rang retentions and got £15 a month, new phone, 200 minutes, 400 texts, unlimited O2 to O2 and some web usage and even asked them if they could throw in a blue tooth headset which they did. Was a bit miffed he had a new phone in that too so rang retentions. Now waiting for my new Samsung and on the same deal as DH but forgot to ask for a blue tooth headset - though I never use them anyway! Can't believe how easy it was and I've a friend who is paying £35 a month with 02 and just got herself into an 18 month contract with them just because she likes texting and was really happy to have 1000 texts which is just not worth £20 a month more than this deal to me at all!:j Addicted to money saving0
