Hmmm...just phoned up to upgrade...got offered 400 txt, 200 mins and a Nokia 6300 for £25 over 18 months!!! I think that's a big, fat no from me. Asked what it would take to get a N96...£296!!!

Considering I've been with them 5 years and have broadband with them I'm a bit insulted by that!

They are rather cheeky asking for anything over 100 quid for the N96, although it costs well over that they clearly are not buying them in for 296 quid! I'd keep trying, at 18 months you should able to secure a decent deal at 25 quid a month, say a high end phone and 600 mins/1000 texts/unlimited internet would be reasonable I feel;).

Can i ask why you think that has anyone on here had that deal ?

I have been offered that to clarify- however the phone is not to my liking as I text a lot:)!
  • Hmm, now it appears that O2 is sensibly offering great phones/smartphones to retain customers. Re-thinking my idea of taking credit instead.

Had a play with the Xperia X1 yesterday and I'm glad I did before ordering it.

I think it's more a 'stylus-phone' than 'touchphone'. I know there are HTC TouchFlo cracks that you can use on it but not convinced. Mind you, it is a beauty. Feels solid and well built. Too much like a laptop/PC though - I guess it's the Windows OS.

Thinking of the BB Bold now, seems more user-friendly - don't need the business use but it seems it can be used by less office/work oriented pple like me.

Has anyone been offered the Bold free via retentions? What's it like day-to-day? Would it satisfy the music/internet/PDA/phone requirements of mere mortals?

Think you need to speak to retentions and not upgrades. Do some research on models that you like, find out what other deals are available from other networks and then speak to retentions. You should get a better deal than you have been offered but the N96 is an expensive handset, it won't be free on a £25 a month tarrif. (I did get offered the N95 8GB for £25 a month 600 minutes/1000 texts plus web bolt on after some haggling).

    Good luck.

Thanks to all for the postings here, they really help when it comes to negotiating a deal.

I immediately asked for, and was given, the Blackberry Bold offer from retentions: 600 mins, 1000 texts, unlimited blackberry/internet data and paid £49 for the handset.

Seems Blackberry are seriously targeting the renewals market to get iPhone business if o2 can offer this for £20 pm 18 months.

BTW the phone arrived and it is really, really nice. The iTunes (Mediasync) download from Blackberry is pretty cool. I had been toying with the idea of an iPhone but this is far better value and suits my business / travel entertainment well too.

I rang o2 upgrades yesterday morning and was told that on my current contract (which is abou 5 years old, paying £20 pm for 1000 off peak mins and1000 texts) they could only offer me £100 credit - they had NO phones to offer me whatsoever, unless i opted for a 24 month contract with a crap phone.

So, after having a browse, and seeing the above deal, i decided to give retentions a call today. I got through to a lovely girl and explained what had happened when i called to upgrade yesterday. After telling her i'd been looking at a blackberry for work, she pottered about and came up with this, which i think is fab:

    1200 anytime minutes
    1000 texts
    unlimited internet/data
    and BLACKBERRY BOLD FREE!!!!! :T

    all for £26 pcm

She had previously said i could pay £48 for the phone and pay £25 pm for 600mins and 1000 texts and the free data, but for the extra £1 i am well pleased!!!:j

Just rang O2, got 600 mins, 1000 texts, unlimited data and an N95 8GB for £24.50 per month. Happy? Yes!!! :o)

It's an 18 month contract, but I can live with that...

    Hi,
Thanks for the replies, it isn't just me then that thought it was a poor deal. When I upgraded 18 months ago I was told that it depends on who you speak to and whether they are achieving their targets or not so I was wondering if there's a "window" during the month that you have a better chance of getting a deal?
Also I was wondering if anyone has had any luck upgrading to an iPhone and what deals they were offered?
    Thanks again

I love my final offer, will fit it with iphone :T
although the wifi is not included, there's no much differences
Their system must has a record to our calls and deals been offered, so more calls, more benefit, and I also realised one thing, the later you called in the day, more money will be saved.
