Got a raw deal after phoning retentions today, Ive been waiting 2 months for c905 to come in after being told I could have it Free on a reduced £20 p/m tariff. Apparently deals are only valid for 7 days?? what a load of bull...

Got told today even with my average spend at £55pm that it will cost me £99 on a £35 p/m contract (600 mins/ x texts). I'm really not happy after 8 years of loyalty with O2

Seen an offer with mobiles.co.uk for the X1 for £30 and £35 p/m which sounds a great deal considering even 02 online haven't got the phone in yet, they've also got some great deals for the C905 and I8510 at £35 p/m and 6-8 months cashback

If anyone else is interested in these deals theres also £40 cashback via Quidco and a free bluetooth headset if you enter the code: BT135 when checking out
  • can anyone confirm the following?

am on o2 contract now - when it ends go to the simplicity deal £20 a month with 600/1000 and bolt on & get £150 "re-sign" deal?

or is the 150 just a re-sign only?
  • Hi guys,

I'm a rare poster here, so I do feel bad asking for your advice now! I hope you won't mind.

I upgraded my phone to a brand new N95 8GB in January, on a 18m contract at about £30-odd a month (with lots of extras thrown in). I've been been with o2 since the middle of 2006 on contract, but on PAYG from 2002 using the same number. Perhaps they track me as a loyal customer? Unfortunately, that phone has now broken down entirely (water damage, apparently, though it must've been the tiniest, killer sliverof drizzle slipping into the most sensitive nook and cranny of the phone) and I'm very louth to invest in a new one...

...Are there any recommendations you guys would make? Only being due an upgrade in June 2009, what're my chances with O2 retentions? Would it be best to swap my contract down as cheap as possible whilst investing in a brand new iPhone contract (or similar) and porting my number across?

Any tips or hints or ways to manage without a phone most appreciated!

    Thanks!

    Hi guys,
Has anyone had an good deals on the X1 recently?

I managed to get the Sony X1 for free through the O2 retentions team at the Carphone Warehouse with 600 minutes, 1000 txts and unlimited web for £30 a month. Admittedly it was a 24 month contract but can drop the tariff from month 9 to £25, then to £20 but still keep the unlimited browsing.

    Hi,

How are you finding the X1?? Would you recommend it?

Was a bit unsure of it for the first couple of days but downloaded a superb panel from Sonys' site and it makes the phone much more useable, also the keyboard takes a little while to get used to, downloaded Touchpal which is a visual keyboard better than the one that comes with Windows Mobile 6.1. Even my iPhone owning friends are impressed!

Nearly went for the Omnia but after having tried it I'm totally glad I went for the X1, theres a Mobile magazine (I can't remember the name of it but saw it in WHSmiths) that has a review of new smartphones and the Sony comes out on top, worth having a read.

    Hope this helps
  • Just thought I'd share my experience - one of the rare happy ones it seems!

Been with O2 for 5+ years and I've been paying this last year £15pm for 200mins and 800 texts - retentions deal from last year (year before that paid £30pm). Also got a nokia phone last year which I sold on eBay for £190.

Anyway, back to this year, asked if they could match a "T-Mobile advert I'd seen yesterday in a newspaper which I'm afraid I don't have to hand". The lady transfered me to the retentions dept. and after lots of chatting, bartering and haggling I settled on a Sony Ericsson C902, 600 mins, 1000 texts with optional extra (choose 200 more mins, could have had unlimited downloads) for £20pm! Down from £35 so 40% off and also persuaded her I should get the phone for free (not the quoted £55) as I was agreeing to an 18 month contract coming from a 12 month contract.

    One happy customer! :D

It depends on what phone you really want, if you're after the C905 you won't get anything from retentions with that phone although a couple of people have and still had to pay £50 for the phone to get it on a lower contract or £100 like u said. I tried to get it but got no way fast, so i've got my pac code and im looking else where now. There is no such thing as loyalty these days!.

If you're not too bothered about the phone then i would say £25 is about right for a contract.

I had a few calls to retentions today in which they basically either told me to be good and stick to my current Simplicity deal (I was after a SE Xperia and was in no way prepared to go £75/month for it or pay over the top for it), or offered me the same deal as a new customer. The last call was a dead end as the X1 had gone out of stock.

Oh, well, I'm not in a hurry to upgrade and was merely probing for a good deal. I can wait, although it feels nice to call in for a PAC every so often as a reminder that Simplicity customers aren't bound to anything :p
