I'll add your query to this one later to keep all the answers in the same place.

    Good luck :)

If it's really bad (yes, I have grandchildren!) I would firstly do what the cat recommends as a first step. THen unplug the microwave. Take out the ring and platter. Lay a damp dishcloth across the floor. Leave for a while to loosen the horrors, then wipe clean. Turn the microwave gently onto its side and repeat on that face. Continue until all sides, top and bottom are clean.

The advantages are that it is a job you can do in little spurts while getting on with something else. Saves using chemical cleaners and avoids wasting all that elbow grease.

do the water and lemon juice thing... it softens the muck, then I use Astonish orange paste, it's non toxic and ever so slightly abrasive (rub in the grain of Stainless Steel) brings mine up a treat.

    Hi all,

I have a convection microwave. Unfortunately while cooking a roast beef in my normal oven it stopped working so I had to finish it in the microwave. Although I had covered the meat in tin foil the microwave is really dirty!

Before this I used to clean it with some hot soapy water but it doesn;t matter how hard I scrub it's still dirty.

    Any tips would be great.

    Thanks a bunch.

Put hot wate rin a bowl, set the microwave off for 3 minutes lets the steam loosen the crusty bits and hey presto its should wipe clear in no time. If its still a bit crusty then put it back on for another couple of minutes. I usually put in boiled water, set it off for 3 leave for 5 then clean also you can add a slice of lemon to make it smell nice too xx
You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !

    Hi,

Above advice really works! I use it too.
Just a word of warning - don't put tinfoil in the microwave. Your microwave could blow up!

Add a drop of washing up liquid to the hot water - the soapy steam really makes it easy to clean up with a few wipes of a clean cloth & the lemon will cut through any grease :)

I do this with my normal oven after I've used it.A cereal bowl of boiling water and a few drops of washing up liquid and close the door.By the time we have eaten and cleared the table the oven just needs a wipe over.I have never in the 36 years I have been a a housewife had to buy an oven cleaner or actually set about to clean a dirty oven.Got this tip from my own grandmother.
