Beanie I think you missed the point, click on Squeakys message takes you to a past link to cleaning your microwave. On there is what I was going to suggest - a bowl of water with lemons juice and heat it up. That is Kim and Aggies suggestion too.

Lemon cut up in hot water worked for me when DD decided to defrost a bread bun in the new microwave and nearly set fire to it!

im sure there was one of those old wives tales that if you microwaved some household thing first all the glued on crud would wipe off easily, any suggestions?

We use kitchen cleaner from Lidl. Spray on wait a few mins and wipe off.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • i usually put a jug of hot water in and put the microwave on for 5-10 minutes the steam helps remove all the splatters of food and makes it much easier to clean ..

Microwave jug/bowl of hot water with some chopped lemon in it. The steam makes the stuck on food soften so it's easier to clean, and the lemon gets rid of smells.
Here I go again on my own....

I've also heard of using vinegar for cleaning the microwave (and normal ovens too). There's a website here which advocates vinegar for practically everything - tip 5 is for cleaning microwaves:

"To clean my microwave, I put 1 Tablespoon of vinegar, one cup of warm water and 1 or 2 drops of dish soap in a smal microwave safe bowl. Put it in the microwave on high for 3-4 minutes and let stand for 15 minutes. Then wipe the microwave out with a damp sponge. The steam and use of vinegar loosens up the build up in the microwave. "
  • I used my steam cleaner last time it was realy gunky. But the methods above can work just as well! I was realy just trying out the cleaner on everything I could think of-it was the quickest method yet though!
