Neat vinegar, for a couple to five minutes, then (wearing rubber gloves 'cos it'll be HOT) dip a cloth in the vinegar and wipe round.

Be careful not to let the vinegar boil dry.

If it doesn't shift everything - give it a second go.

Dear Daughter decide to defrost a bread roll and gave it 10 mins on very high - smoke filled kitchen - neighbours nearly called fire brigade - brown oven (instead of white) and dreadful smelll.

I got a fresh lemon cut it in half and squeeezed out the juice into a glass bowl of warm water and put remains of lemon in the bowl as well - turned on microwave for 15 mins on defrost - then wiped it out with clean water.

    It worked brilliantly!!!:j

Another method of cleaning a microwave quickly.

Wet two pieces of paper towel, place in microwave and heat on high one minute.

Then use you paper towel to wipe off the gunk!

    Repeat if microwave very dirty.

I'm sorry? Those tips really do work, honest :)

Or did you have something else in mind?

I've just realised, sorry - the words "cleaning the microwave" are a link to a thread about claening the microwave. Just click on it to go there.
