Has anyone had issues with fraud after trying to cancel?

I have two accounts with 3 and both times after requesting my PAC code (several months apart) there has been "fraudulent activity" on my account where an unauthorised upgrade was requested and posted to an address at the other end of the UK.

My problem now is that I want to cancel my account but I am unable to do so whilst their Fraud Team investigate my case - this has been going on for over four weeks and in that time 3 have obviously taken another month's payment from me. Unfortunately, due to their policy, they wont discuss anything about this fraud so I cannot even do anything to prevent it happening again (if it's a password that needs changing et.c.).

Not very happy at all with this and was wondering if anyone else has encountered unauthorised upgrades that have been processed minutes after ringing up to cancel a contract. It's happened to me twice now and I struggle to believe it's a co-incidence.

This is exactly what happened to me before christmas, I cancelled 2 contracts and within days they were upgraded fraudulently, 2 phones were sent to an address 200 miles from mine, I couldnt get any sense out of the call center, I sent an email to the executive office telling them i was going to contact the police, They contacted me and stopped the payments and closed the account eventually, I have since cancelled our other 2 contracts but ported the numbers this time, good luck mate, i will never go with 3 again

    Hi folks

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but it's relating to three. I'm currently on a 24 month contract with Three. I am coming to the end of the contract, and am due an upgrade on the 15th of May. On Sunday my phone broke, I took it out my pocket and the screen is black with white lines, think it must have been pressured by something in my pocket. Will cost £65 to fix as i've had a couple of quotes. I don't feel this would be justified due to only needing this phone for the next couple of months before I upgrade. I'm happy with Three and would like to stay with them.

Does anyone know what my options would be? Would I need to pay an early upgrade fee? Could another company buy me out of my contract?

If I were you I would:

    1) Buy a new phone handset on Three or preferably unlocked;
    2) Sell the old handset as spares or repair on Ebay;
    3) After 15th April phone up to leave Three and when then try to persuade you to stay negotiate a SIM-only deal. I pay £5 a month for 300 minutes or texts, 5000 Three-to-Three minutes and 2.5GB data.

How did you manage to get a deal for £5 a month? Whats teh contract duration? Is it SIM only or with some phone? when I threatened to cancel, I was offered the deal of 200 mins for £6.90 a month with one year contract. I later found that thats the standard deal anyone could get.

I spoke to the retentions and could not agree a contract, as like you they mainly offered deals off the website, so asked for my PAC. A few days later they phoned me to offer me the £5 deal, which was SIM only for a minimum of 12 months. This was two years ago and I just stay on that contact. My Mum got a better deal still about a year ago, as she got 500 minutes or texts rather than 300.

    Hi everyone!
I've been with 3 for ages and over the last 2 years have also been paying for my 2 kids their phone with 3.
All our 2 year contracts are up at the beginning of May and we are all fancying iphones (all HTC at mo).
I've read over the last few pages of advice on this thread and have picked up lots of tips, thanks.
One thing I don't understand is the PAC codes, why do you need these and what are they?
Has anyone got a better deal because they are dealing with multiple phone contracts? Last time I phoned early and kept re-ringing to get better deals, I don't know if that still works?
I also didn't know about the 'giving a months notice' thing! I'm glad I read about that.:T

    Any advice, gratefully received.
    Thank you!

A Port Authorisation Code (PAC) is needed to transfer your number to another provider.

Importantly you need to choose the options for leaving on the phone, not renewals, as if they think you are really going they may offer better deals. Even if you get a PAC, it's possible they will phone you later with better offers.

Only buy Three iPhones if you can afford it, that's £1,500 of kit.

Don't get into expensive contracts you might not be able to afford later, three iPhones could cost £100 a month altogether!

It may be cheaper to buy a phone yourself and negotiate a good SIM only deal.

Still not getting anywhere and was told if I had my PAC (which he didn't give me) I would not get any loyalty deals. My response was that he wasn't giving me any anyway. Last offer I had was 600 cross network
    5000 txt
    Unlimited data
    12 month SIM only £15.90
This is available to anyone on 3 website! After holding on for ages he came back with a 'good deal' because I was an 'old 'customer (yeah!) £10 off for the year!

I tried and tried to get my PAC and was just fobbed off constantly. Eventually gave up and said I would have to ring again. Going to give it a go now.

    .

That's a worse deal than new customers get, as they can get the following from Quidco:

£45.83 for Ultimate Internet SIM 600 12 month

Have just been on talking to 'retentions' apparently. Offered me:
    2000 3 to 3
    200 x network
    5000 txt
    500mg data
£9.90 month rolling contract with £5 off first bill or
    2000 3 to 3
    600 x network
    500 txt
1g data 1 year contract £12.90 per month with £10 off first month

Tried to get my PAC code but was told told if I requested it on the account all loyalty discounts would be removed. I chickened out eventually and said I was going to look at other providers and would request my PAC when I had decided. OMG this is a nightmare!
How on earth are people getting SIM only deals better than those available to all (other than the extra 3 to 3 mins)?

Haha, you wouldn't want to lose that £10 per year discount! (compared to £40 Quidco a new customer gets). I find they will say anything and talk nonsense.

Have you considered trying Virgin Mobile on a 30 day contract? Apparently they offer £5 or £6 deals with good allowances after you've been with them 3 months, then speak with their retentions.
