Have you considered trying Virgin Mobile on a 30 day contract? Apparently they offer £5 or £6 deals with good allowances after you've been with them 3 months, then speak with their retentions.
I have looked at the Virgin one - 1200 minutes, unlimited texts and 1G for £12 and I see that some have succesfully negotiated a lower deal after a few months. Will seriously consider.
If I leave, I will need to get my HTC Desire phone unlocked. I see it's £15.32. with 3. Anyone done it?0 -
rang again today - nothign better on offer. Asked for PAC code and gave a month's notice. Again told I would not get any discounts if i requested PAC. Replied that I wasn't getting any discounts for SIM only anyway.
We'll see what happens next0 -
I am midway through a 24 month contract on the one plan. I need to port my number out as the signal where I now live and work is awful. I am happy to keep paying the monthly contract as I know that I am committed to but would like to get the number out now, is there a way to achieve this? I'm not in a position to pay the remainder of the contract in one lump.0

No, when you port your number out the contract is closed.0

I'm coming up to the last month of my contract and looking to upgrade to the Xperia Z from my iPhone 4. The online upgrade just gives me the same offer as new customers get so I decided to phone them up instead. First time around they again offered me the same deal - £34p/m with £69 upfront cost or £39p/m with no upfront cost. Noooooooo chance lol.
I rang them up yesterday to cancel my contract and they offered me the same deals as above but they'd pay the last month of my contract (approx £37). I said I'd think about it but I'm still not happy
I'm going to give it another month and finish my contract and probably go with a third party retailer and get a better deal.0 -

This will be the first time i have ever changed provider (vodafone 15 yrs) as they can not get close to the deals you can get with third party retailers. Plus you can normally get around £40 cashback by switching providers.
The good loyalty retention deals are reserved for exuberant spenders and the rest up us are often better off with a new provider
You can pick up the z for £26 p/m elsewhere0 -
has anyone ever gave the 30days notice and not ended up having a 'heated discussion' with the 3 mobile call advisor?

i gave my notice but in the heat of moment forgot to get a pac code, am i now screwed if i want to take my number to a new provider or can i phone back and request it?0 -
You can ask for your PAC code anytime and you have 30 days in which to use it. Just ring back. It is a hassle. I spoke with 4 different people before I was eventually sent it.
I'm still not sorted. Offers have been poor but daunted by possible hassle to move but have given 30 days notice and received my PAC Service wise, 3 has been fine for me. Was given time to think about an offer and was promised a callback. Waited a few days but no callback. Called 3 back and was offered 'worse' deals. Said about the other offer was was promised a callback again. That was Friday - still waiting.0 -
Can someone explain the PAC thing to me? (this wasn't an issue 2 years ago when I last upgraded)
I've just spoken to 3 and had the same experience as everyone else. Lots of flannel, no good deals, pushing rubbish phones, the phones I want are unavailable and he kept saying I needed to stay with them for loyalty purposes but I could see no reason why I should. I've got three contracts and I thought he'd be begging me to stay. I'm expecting more phonecalls in the next few weeks?

Asking for your PAC is giving 30 days notice that you want to leave the network. This gets their attention as it shows that you are 'serious' about leaving.
The second level retentions team then get notified and give you a call. They are in a better position to offer you a 'deal' as the first level guys just quote what is on the web page.0
