'Retenions' called me telling me they were the last port of contact and that I would not be contacted again with any offers. Rubbish offers, poor phones - worse than normal retentions staff

I've been on 3 for 2 years... I've got a HTC Wildfire on the one plan and my contract ends on 31/3. I had a look at the upgrade deals for the S3 and they're rubbish! For the ultimate internet 500 they only knock £1 off and want £29 upfront! But, if i get it via Tesco phone shop it's only £26...still on 3, same tariff, free phone but not ultrafast ready. And i'd get £35.35 cashback plus clubcard points. I did ring them but was only offered website deals. Didn't ask for my PAC code tho, will do that tomorrow.

My question is, if i ask for my PAC code and refuse the retention deals (unless of course they offer me an free ultrafast phone for £26pm...not gonna happen! :D), would i be able to get the phone via Tesco before officially ending my current contract? Basically have 2 parallel accounts with 3, if only for a day or 2? i was planning to order the phone on Weds, get it on Thurs and activate it straight away.

    Thanks :)

You can have as many contracts as you like. Your PAC is used to port your number over so you could ask for your PAC, get the Tesco phone then use the PAC around week 3 to move your number over and close the 3 contract.

    Thanks KTF :)

Well i rang them today, was on the phone just over an hour! Bless Jamrish, he was a tryer! :D

Didn't let on at first that the new Tesco phone was on the 3 network, until he said that the £26 pm wasn't inclusive of VAT and that i wouldn't be getting unlimited internet as stated. When i told him he hummed and haa'd a bit, but then still tried to tell me that i'd be paying @£32pm, even tho the bills come from them, not Tesco, and it's advertised at £26. I've looked everywhere on the Tesco site and i can't find anywhere that says VAT isn't included in the price.

then he said that the price could go up mid contract...what like it did a few months ago? :D That stumped him for a few minutes :D

He also said that my PAC code would be invalid because i can't transfer my number in the same company. Not sure about this one, but it's no biggie really.

He offered me the Experia for £6pm if i took it out alongside their S3 deal, but when i questioned him on it he backtracked, but i don't need 2 phones anyway. Then he offered me a refurbished Samsung for £2...no. Told him that if he matched the Tesco deal then i would be interested...but even if they did, i'd still be losing out on £35 cashback and CC points.

Be interesting to see what they come back with, if anything!

On the phone to them now. I asked to be put on the 1 month rolling contract as it's more mins etc, for less money. He agreed, rather too easily. That was until I mentioned I wanted my pac code. :(

Told him I wanted to go to carphone warehouse and go for the free phone with free tablet offer. He replied that many people are telling him they've been stung by that offer, as 3 months into the contract you get billed for the phone. Hmmmm... why are people telling him this? It says free phone!

Now I've just been told if I get my pac code all my loyalty bonus will go. Well.... Since I haven't had any loyalty bonus for the last two years, I hardly think that's a big deal.

I'm now on hold while he works out a fab deal for me. I'm not holding up much hope.

Hmmm. Been offered the Galaxy Ace with the Ultimate Internet 300 plan normally £19, but with 500 mins instead of 300 for £15. Pressure!!!!
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Didn't go for the deal in the end as I don't really want a galaxy ace lol. Didn't get my pac code either as he wouldn't give me that, and the new rolling contract at the same time. So, got to call back in a couple of weeks and go through it all again. arghhhhh. Oh well, this rolling contract is a better deal than I was on for now.

I have always stuck with going thru the actual phone company before but am tempted this time (to get a better deal) to go elsewhere.
How reliable are these websites (Like the one posted in previous posts) as they seem to have some great deals on offer?
Do you have to hand in receipts to get money back etc?

I'm enjoying reading the trials and tribulations of phoning 3! I reckon I could be doing lots of that this month with three phone to upgrade...watch this space.

P.S Does anyone have one of the new windows phones? I spoke to someone who said they were in there infancy and therefore are a bit rubbish at the moment and the best thing is to wait until they are more established. Is this true??

To transfer your number from 3 to 3 (via Tesco mobile) you will need to port your number away to another provider (i.e. o2, etc) then back again to 3 (via Tesco) so they were right on that part.

Call again and ask for your PAC, dont say why or anything else, just ask for it again and again until they relent. That should cut down some of the call time anyway.
