Look around on deal comparison sites first to get an idea of the contracts that the phone you want to upgrade to costs per month then call them up and see if they can match it.

Have a phone in mind though as if you just ask for an 'upgrade' then there is no telling what they will offer you.

What do you mean your Desire is going a bit 'dodgy'? If you want to bring it more up to date there is always the option of rooting it and putting on a custom ROM.
  • rundmc remember you could simply put your old sim into a new 3 compliant phone, buy the phone outright and cont with your low monthly cost, best of all not tie in to a network!

KTF- Thanks for your reply. I know for certain that there are no contracts for any handset that have are more suitable and with a lower cost than what I currently have. Therefore I want to stay on my current plan. It's just a question of whether anyone recently has experienced 3 upgrading their phone whilst allowing them to maintain the same low price plan. I think it's very unlikely. Also, I don't think threatening to leave/asking for pac code will help much as I don't have much to bargain with, I don't think they're likely to believe I want to throw away a £6 month contract :rotfl:

Anonymousie- Thanks very much for your reply. What you suggest is what I have been thinking I will have to do. There aren't even any sim only plans cheaper than what I have, so I need to stick to my current sim, and if 3 won't upgrade the handset, just buy one myself.

P.S. Desire=dodgy as in: it randomly freezes. It turns itself off. It closes down all the webpages in the middle of viewing. It suddenly loses all battery power when apparently "half full". I know some of that could prob be fixed with a new battery, but in general, it's just a bit... dodgy ;)

If you want a new phone then it comes with a new plan (unless you buy a PAYG phone) which will almost certainly cost more than your current one.

As suggested above, your best bet will be to buy an off contract phone and put your SIM in it whilst continuing on your current plan.

The Desire sounds like it needs a new battery and a flash with a custom rom ;)

Gave a 30 day notice and requested PAC code. Within a hour have received 2 calls offering 1)500 cross network min, 5000 sms, 2000 3-to-3 min, all you can eat data and galaxy ace for £13/m. After declining was offered 2) galaxy Europa with same as above allowance for £11/m or £8/m with 250mb/m instead of All u can eat. The 2nd offer is "for life" discount - so I will keep paying £11/m after 2 years.

Ps have been with them for 2 years on 300 min/SMS, 2000 3-to-3 min plan and all-u-can-eat addon (£3/m extra), paying about £15/m.

Well, after the 24 month contract finishes you go on to a 30 day rolling contract at whatever you were paying for the past 24 months before so I guess that is 'for life' until you call up and cancel it :)

250mb for £8 a month is a bit mean though. Previously the retentions deal was 500 mix & match mins/txts, 500mb data and a Galaxy Europa for the same money.
  • Just wondered if anyone had managed to wangle a better deal than the online offers for the iPhone 5 or galaxy S3 from 3? Ive been with them about six years and it's contract renewal time again.

They're doing online upgrades now which saves the hassle of the call centres, but I cant help thinking they might have a better deal if I rang up.

online upgrades are offering the One Plan with the iPhone 5 16gb for £36 per month with £100 upfront cost... I'd be pretty happy with that if they waived the upfront fee but i've been told they're a lot less open to negotiation than they used to be.. any thoughts?

was told exactly same offer 2months ago its not that special its just they must have a load of aces to shift this was when i upgraded to the s3 it was just that i wanted the s3 and the had the best offer against all the other networks and me suspecting EE price plans where going to be expensive rubbish which they are and at the time only covering 12 cities as well wasn't going to be worth the juice!

anyway way to look at it is decide what you want phone and mins and best price you can get and as to the other poster saying about negotiating standard indian call center don't they can only offer what offers that are on the website all the bull of special offer for you is hype the only ones that can offer you better offers is if you ask to speak to disconnections basically retentions dept then they may offer you better deal bit like sky do.
