I'm on a 30 day SIM only rolling contract with 3, paying £18 a month (if I stay within my allowance ) and I called today to cancel as I wanted to upgrade and get an iPhone 4S, and sell my iPhone 4. However i've never gotten good reception in my house on 3 (everywhere else is fine, and data always speedy) so I was going to change to Vodafone.

The man from 3 gave me a good chuckle "please make a note of your keepings", but he did offer me a better deal than Vodafone. I was going to pay £36 a month for 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 1 GB data allowance, no upfront costs. He offered me 2000 minutes, all-you-can-eat data and 5000 texts for the same price, and a free 'at home' signal booster which guarantees a "200%" (:o) reliable signal at home.

I'm doing away with the £49 upfront cost (they've spread it over the 2 years by adding an extra £2 a month than The One Plan is advertised for, I later realised) but still seems like a good deal compared to the other networks. And I get cash in my pocket by selling my phone, which was a present anyway. I'll be paying double than I was a month but no danger of going over any limits, some months I was paying £30 odd anyway.

It'll be nice to be able to send texts in my living room without waving my phone in the air! (if the booster actually works).

Surely you can get the same deal (£34pcm + £49 upfront = £36pcm) by signing up the contract on Three website (bar signal booster) but potentially with quidco/topcashback of £110?

I'm halfway through my cancellation period so may make a call tomorrow to see what I can get out of them. I'd quite like a Samsung Galaxy S III but I doubt they'll be offering too much to tempt me in that direction. I wish I'd moved a bit quicker when Carphone Warehouse were offering the free tablet with it on their website for pre-orders but I decided to sleep on it and it was pulled!

I have noticed Three pricing getting very uncompetative. I have been looking at a Samsung Note and the pricing from Three is not a patch on what I can get from O2 (that's even before the £5 a month I will get off on my O2 BB). PAC code here I come.

If you get the second-tier network support guys to show you can't get signal at home, they give you a booster anyway (as long as you're on a contract)

I was offered a great deal as a 'loyal customer for many years' (his words, not mine). Exactly the same as a new customer on their website.

    £34pm.

I just signed up here after seacrching the internet for 3 retention deals and finding this thread on the forum.

I have been on contract with Three for nearly 6 years, when I first signed up I thought they were great, got offered a really good deal on a handset and plan.

Then slowly over time their customer service became appauling. The staff almost accusing you of lieing on the phone! And they appear to have very little technicial knowledge.

I phoned them up last Friday to cancel my contract and the guy on the phone obviously asked me why. I explained that I don't want to be tied into a contract and that I'm going to Giff Gaff. He said he had never heard of them and that he could offer me a £12 month sim only deal on a 30 day rolling contract. I kept saying no just give me my PAC code and cancel my contract.

I already had wasted 30 minutes of my life just trying to get through to the retentions team, then 15 minutes of the guy doing his hardest to retain me I just said ok put me on the sim only deal. He said that I had a 14 day cooling off period and I could cancel it no problem.

So I phoned them up Monday and said I've thought about it and I definately want to cancel and I want my PAC code. Guy was fine and let me go, 5 minutes later I got a text message with my PAC code.

I can't believe they've let a customer like me go without offering anything competitive at all. I must have given them at least £2,000 of my money over the years I've been with them!

They're pushy customer service and general poor signal for where I use the phone means I'll never go with them again.
