I am on exactly the same deal as you with the same phone so interesting to see what you got offered.

You can get a SIM 300 (12 month) with the following:
    300 minutes
    3000 texts
    1GB data
    12 months
(2000 3 to 3 calls are always included to thats not a bonus)

For only £10 a month via their website. Looks like they offered you that with the £3 all you can eat data pack on top so that 'deal' is exactly the same as a walk-in which is crap as a 'retention'.

GiffGaff data is billed as unlimited:
    Unlimited texts and internet
We are unlimited for personal mobile use - but not for commercial and automated use.

I think with giff gaff it is tethering that may cause them to stop your data, I am unlikely to tether so it won't be a problem for me.

I am also thinking of getting a deal with buymobilephones.net which is also three. Does anyone know if you can keep your number when porting from three to three via a dealer like bmpnet?

Yes, its the tethering that will get you into trouble with GiffGaff.

I think you have to port your number away then back to 3 again. A free PAYG Sim should be OK for this.

That was sim only I assume?

The start of my 30 day window was yesterday and just working up the enthusiasm to do battle with them and see what they offer.

I might just drop down to SIM only as my Desire is still fine for what I use it for then I can either upgrade later or just buy an off contract phone and use that.

Might as well have been, was with the galaxy europa.

Was offered a Sony Xperia S on the ultimate 300 today for £23 pcm with £39 upfront.......still not convinced I want to stay with three
  • As an existing customer (3 years) I was just offered, after a few days wait since requesting and being given my PAC code:

    100 minutes
    3000 texts
    1gb data
    2000 3-to-3

On a rolling one month sim only deal = £7 a month.

Seems like it is a little better to sign up for a 12 month sim only deal (thanks to hot uk deals for this), but these require a longer commitment, relying on Quidco, and the hassle of porting number to PAYG and back to new contract.

    SIM300 (12mo) - £10/mo 12mo - 300m, 3000t, 1GB - £54.50 cashback - eff. £5.46/mo
    SIM600 (12mo) - £12/mo 12mo - 600m, 3000t, 1GB - £81.82 Quidco - eff. £5.18/mo

Now I'll wait and see what deals are available for the Galaxy 3, or pick up a 24 month Galaxy Note deal through Phones For You.

I am tempted by the same Galaxy Note deal on o2 that P4U are offering - 500mb data, 200 mins, unlimited txt, free phone for £21.50 - so will give them a call this evening to see if they can match it (which I doubt as the stores wouldnt budge).

The SIII release in a few days will almost certainly push prices of the other phones/deals down (not that they go up anyway) so may just drop to SIM only and wait until another offer comes up.

Shame as they used to do good retentions deals but the store confirmed that any 'loyalty discount' that may be on the account isnt honoured any more.
  • I think I'll also see what happens when the S3 is released.

Will probably buy the Galaxy Note from Amazon Germany for £363 delivered (hopefully this will go down again in a week or so), and then sell it on in a year.

If I get £200 for it in a year, then my monthly cost with the £7 a month sim only deal will be about £20 a month (£20.60).

There was £50 cashback with the P4U deal too, which makes it more attractive (reduces cost to about £19 a month for 24 months).

I'm on a 30 day SIM only rolling contract with 3, paying £18 a month (if I stay within my allowance ) and I called today to cancel as I wanted to upgrade and get an iPhone 4S, and sell my iPhone 4. However i've never gotten good reception in my house on 3 (everywhere else is fine, and data always speedy) so I was going to change to Vodafone.

The man from 3 gave me a good chuckle "please make a note of your keepings", but he did offer me a better deal than Vodafone. I was going to pay £36 a month for 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 1 GB data allowance, no upfront costs. He offered me 2000 minutes, all-you-can-eat data and 5000 texts for the same price, and a free 'at home' signal booster which guarantees a "200%" (:o) reliable signal at home.

I'm doing away with the £49 upfront cost (they've spread it over the 2 years by adding an extra £2 a month than The One Plan is advertised for, I later realised) but still seems like a good deal compared to the other networks. And I get cash in my pocket by selling my phone, which was a present anyway. I'll be paying double than I was a month but no danger of going over any limits, some months I was paying £30 odd anyway.

It'll be nice to be able to send texts in my living room without waving my phone in the air! (if the booster actually works).

Three couldn't get close to the Galaxy Note deal via P4U - came in at mid £30s - so I have dropped down to SIM 100 (30 day) until I can decide if I really need to upgrade my phone when the Desire is still fine for what I use it for.
