My 3 contract is up at the end of May. I was dead set on leaving them as I get such a lousy service in my house. One of the first thing the bloke mentions was some signal booster 'worth £120' that I can have if I re-contract in with them. Are these any good?

I currently pay £24 a month I think it is and whilst I hardly use it to make calls I use mobile internet a fair bit and send plenty of texts.

Any ideas on tactics? I could do with a new handset as mine is a bit worse for wear but I'm not overly bothered about the flashiest machine - it would be nice to be able to take photos though!

Can I get a better deal elsewhere or is there something I should strive to get from 3? I'm more than happy to move elsewhere particularly if I can get cashback via Quidco etc.

Yes the home signal box works well. I have one. Uses your Internet connection to give you 5 bar signal all around your house.

I've been offered a fantastic "deal" on the htc one s. Ignoring any cashback, I'd be cheaper buying the phone from them and chucking a sim only contract in it. I'm not totally sure what they're playing at. Has anyone managed to get some sense out of them?

Ask for your PAC code. You will get an internal team calling you and you will probably get better deals then.

It appears that they are not bothering with existing customer anymore....

Anyway, the more expensive HTC One X is only going for £25pcm with upfront cost of £117.99 for the One Plan (2000mins / unlimited data etc) - see link below.

    http://www.affordablemobiles.co.uk/contract-mobile-phones/3/the_one_plan_(new)/htc/one_x/30751391.html

TCB is giving £40 cashback and therefore effectively monthly cost for this phone on One Plan is £28.25 - I reckon this is quite a good deal.

  • Just reporting back about the new HTC ONE X handset.

I've had this handset for around 2 days now.

    pros:
    • looks lovely!
    • fast too
    • nice display
    • sense4.0 is surprisingly nice, I do miss my root but I don't feel confident enough to root this since there's no removable media.
    • camera works brilliantly for pics and videos

    cons:
    • no microsd.. usable space of the 32GB total is around 26GB
    • no removable battery
    • Heats up considerably when playing videos/games.

Currently I'm charging it twice a day just to make sure i have enough charge when i get back home.

As with anything new and shiney, I'll play with the handset constantly and I'll have to force myself to put the thing down so this doesn't help.

Average time for the battery to full discharge is around 12 hours.

I've only started thinking about the consequence of not having a replaceable battery. In 2 years time once my contract has expired, the battery will no doubt perform less efficiently as it does now, yes the handset should still be respectable but if the battery has degraded even slightly, then it may become a major hindrance. I've already got plans to sell it once the contract is up.

Dropbox 25GB offer doesnt work for me, Im currently waiting for a response from dropbox.

Regardless of these problems, the handset is still lovely, if you can wait for the SIII then maybe that will solve a few of the issues that I feel hamper this phone.

I called back today and spoke to cancellations. They were slightly more amenable than the lady I spoke to the other day, however, they were still quoting me "exclusive" deals, telling me there was a £6 a month discount yet when I told them their website was quoting that tariff at the same price, they kept telling me I was wrong and that it cost more online. The deal is not a bad one and I am thinking about it but would prefer to get cashback online.

I rang off saying I wanted to think about it before deciding and got a call back 10 mins later. Cue me thinking I've cracked them. Instead the man is just telling me to reconsider the same "exclusive" deal I told someone I'd think about 10 minutes before.

I don't understand why they would tell outright lies on the phone. Surely that breaches some kind of code I'm sure they are subscribed to.

If a supermarket claimed something was discounted but it was never sold at the higher price, that is unlawful. Does the same apply to a phone company?

I can confirm that my deal went all well.

£25/month (charged that on my next bill) on the one plan with free HTC One X.
    :j

Been using the phone for the past few days and really pleased.

Screen is amazing. Camera is good. Fast and smooth.

Battery life is excellent on standby. Best I ever experience in a smartphone.
But because the screen is a power hog, when using it, it is only average. But a normal user will get a full day out of it.

I called 3 today asking for a Galaxy S2. They offered me £26 per month, 1000 minutes, 5000 texts, unlimited data and the phone free. I asked for a lower price but the woman I spoke to said that's the lowest they'll go for that phone free.

Should I take this? I see someone else was offered £25 for The One Plan.

What I really want is a lower price but I wouldn't mind tethering so maybe I can get them to throw that (or something else) in for the £26/month.

Well I took the deal anyway. Despite being told by the first person I spoke to that it would be "saved" for when I called back, the second person I spoke to gave me some rubbish about £26 being very low and he'd have to put me on hold to check they could give me such crazy prices without going bankrupt, then he came back and put me on hold again for the same reason, then came back once more to tell me that offer was now expired but he'd move heaven and earth to get it for me, before eventually telling me what we both knew all along - that they'd make me the same offer.

I really didn't get the impression from either person that I'd squeeze anything better out of them so I agreed and the phone should be arriving in a couple of days (with a £1.99 delivery charge only mentioned right at the end of course). I saved over £100 on the online total price anyway, which is OK. It's not too much if you take into account Quidco, but as an existing customer that could go wrong anyway (it did last time).

Jackpot! I'm now the proud new owner of a new HTC one for £26 a month. Asking for the PAC code was the winner.

They asked why I was leaving, I quoted details of the deal I was leaving to take and after a bit of faffing about data allowances, my deal has been matched :)
