:rotfl:Ok here are my exploits. Im no stranger to the game. Been with them for 7 years. Been paying £5 a month for last 30 months (12 m+ 18m contracts) on Talk and text 600. 500mins and 100 texts. It suits me and thats the point. Important to say I have 3 seperate contracts for most of those years.
Have always had the pak code and had them ring me last minute of notice period . Usually first dept retention not able to give much. Last year with leverage of taking all three contracts away from them, they capitulated and gave me 3 Nolia E71/2's they were top bannana sold them on ebay for £189 a piece.
On last but one renewal I got heavy loyalty discounts on the three contracts. I asked them and had a CS manager email me confirmation. My fears that come 18m down the line they would take the discount off me if I asked to upgrade my phone. He wrote email to say not the case I would be eligible as everyone else and my loyalty disc was standalone. I kept email in saved file.
However this year I have another 15 days until I can give notice of 30days. So not a good time to ring them but Tesco deal runs out on 4th Jan sim only deal so had to get a ball park figure of what i could get off three. They would not give me a phone on the M&M 300 contracts they said I had to change contracts and that would loose me my discount. The bathplugs !! using the lame threat of big complaint taking down their names etc later may have helped me.
Currently I have three contracts
*M&M 300/No net/ 2000 3to3 mins with loyalty discount of £5 bringing it to £10pm
* M&M 300/no net/2000 3to3 mins same as above £10pm
* Talk text 600 No Net/ 2000 3to3 mins. Loyalty discount of -£25 bringing to £5
In the last month i purchased some new phones off ebay and added on £5 bolt on net allowance to two phones. Making it
£15/ £10/ £ £10 temporarily
Important: I thought it might be beneficial to cancel the add on net before bartering a deal as they may not give it to me free in a new deal if I was paying them good money for it already.
There was NO NEED.
After 2 hrs talking to Customer options team who are at pains to tell you they are the last port of call the highest dept reachable. (No more retentions dept by name it seems) I got this:
* M&M 300 now with 2GB net 5000 3to3 mins for sim only 12months contract £5pm (No phone offered unless I change contract)
*M&M300 2000 mins 3to3. Unchanged as they said they could not do anything on it as it has been only used for three to three calls no profit in it for them. I didnt need any net on this as its my mums.
* Talk text 600 now with 2GB net 2000 3to3 mins (extra discount) 12 months with a Nokia white 5230 phone FOC for £5 per month
All that took a while and it was aimed at beating Tesco sim only. NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Well then I argued for another phone on one of the M&M contracts. painful but got there.
They are giving me a another Nokia 5230 white for FOC. First they said no, then £49 then £34, then £29. I said you are waisting my time Im off and its all down to you Mr manager, listening in,who is clearly feeding the operator lines of sale dialogue.
I made out as if I was going to cause a stink write to hutchinson 3G and tell them how id been with them for 7 years had 3 contracts and a dongle, all will be lost because manager couldnt seize the moment, and Id been hard done by when they wouldnt give me a phone for each contract. he came on line and said YES!!!
So Now I have outlay of £20 total for all three contracts for nly 12 months tie in and extra 3to3 mins but more importantly 2GB net allowance free on two phones and no contract on 1 of them.
The deal suits me and I got two Nokias heading for ebay should get at least £60 back after fees for both (£120) So next 6 months free effectively. Cant see it getting any better!
Sorry for length but all the knowledge of whats likely to happen on the phone is valuable to people I hope as it was for me reading these posts. So took the time to write out some help instead of just taking it. Cheers:beer:0 -
I curently have 2 contracts £18 each (500minutes + Internet), got 2 Nokia E71 as upgrade 18 months ago.
I will threaten to cancel both , any chance on getting the HTC Desire for the same money (or for around £20?)
if not how much does a HTC cost upfront, is it worth getting a sim only contract and buying the phone? I think £30 a month x 2 contracts is too much!0 -

I'd love to get this deal on 3! Tested the water just now and they said the cheapest I could get the HTC Desire with them for was £24 a month. Hmph. Will sit it out til contract ends in March & see if they offer anything good!#39 - Save £12k in 20250 -
My 500+100 for £10 with E71 contract is coming to an end. I've been offered the following without too much resistance.
2000 xnet
1000 txt
5000 3-3
unlimited UK landline
unlimited data
Desire
£20/month for 18m
Ideally I want to pay < £15 so going to negotiate a bit more.0 -
anyone know if there is much difference between the Desire and the Wildfire? I've read a few reviews online saying they're more or less the same so maybe 3 might give better deals for the Wildfire as other networks seem to have good deals for the Wildfire..#39 - Save £12k in 20250

I tested the waters for an iphone 4 insisting I wouldn't be signing up for any 2 year deals. The lady had to go and check, but did offer me an iphone 4 plan on 12 months which pretty much matched the Tesco deal I quoted, but I still baulked at the idea of increasing my monthly payments and having a large upfront cost.
I have agreed instead to a 12 month flexible contract which is 300 mix and match (what I have now) plus 2GB internet and 2000 3-3 for £10. Apparently the 'flexible' means I am free to upgrade anytime but am tied to 3 for the twelve months - but I have been very happy with my coverage and have no desire to move networks.
This might not seem a great deal to most, but I currently use Joikuspot on my E71 with my Ipod touch so have retained a good internet allowance (just in case!) and the 300 m&m is a bit more flexible than the 100 mins I was going to downgrade to (I don't actually like speaking on the phone much!). At the end of the day I have more for £5 less.
I thought it would be of interest though that they weren't insistent I have a 2yr contract and matched Tesco quite easily.0 -
I am currently at the end of my 18 months contract (1,100 M&M for £18pm) with 3 and called them up for an Iphone4. My average usage is 600 mins & 60-ish texts per month. They have offered
a 12 month contract
an Iphone4 16GB,
900 mins,
5,000 texts
1GB allowance,
but
no 3 to 3 mins
skype calls will be taken from the data allowance
voicemail will use up the calls allowance
The cost is £229 upfront + £37 per month for 12 months, total = £673
Does this sound like a reasonable deal? anything else I should look out for?0 -
As eagertosave said its very dependant on who you speak to at 3 as to what kind of retention deal they offer you, which is a shame really. If they all sang from the same sheet im sure they would retain a lot more customers.
When I left 3 about 6 years ago, they were throwing all kinds of deals around such as £5 per months with large allowences. Seems its all dried up now though.0 -
I've just been offered (and taken) the following:
2 * Desire on One Plan
Total monthly cost: £35 for BOTH contracts - not each + one time charge of £30.
One contract is billed at £13 and the other at £22.0
