What makes you think its meant to come with a car charger? That isnt listed on the 3 site.

When I spoke to 3 the other night, the retentions guy told me that part of the deal, was that he (3) was going to throw in a free 4GB memory card (which came as part of the phone) and a car charger.

I am suprised at all this talk about the Desire, when the Nokia X6 16gb is a far superior phone and also available for the same/cheaper price

You inspired me to ring three lol, wanted the desire and was prepared to buy it out right. Got 3 months left on my current contract paying £10pm for 500 mins and unlimited text, i also buy the internet add on for a fiver a month. So currently £15 pm.

Rang retentions and after a bit of faffing he offered me £170 upfront cost for the phone, a 12 month contract from my original end date (sept) with 500 mins and unlimited text with unlimited internet for £10pm so total cost of contract is 290 over the year :j.

    No luck for me.
I am three month to end my 18 month contract. currently on 700min with E71. called three a few times today for a HTC desire but the best they can offer is £28/month 900min, unlimited internet, txt, 3-3 calls with free HTC, 24 month contract.
I have got the PAC number as well. i am not sure i will use it before it expire.

Was speaking to a mate at work who said he got his Desire (from 3 - he's been with them for a few years) for free and £17pm. Didn't have to pay for the phone and gets unlimited internet included. He didn't have to go through retentions to get it

I am currently mid contract with 3 (£10pm + £5pm unlimited internet, sony erikson phone).

I spoke to them yesterday trying to get the same deal (just through the upgrade department and not retentions) but according to them I can't 'officially' upgrade til November (when I will be 100 days away from the end of the contract). They said I could buy the desire now for £389 and they only do £30pm+ contracts. I even asked about the Hero (which is still listed on their site) but was told they don't do them anymore !?!

With the amount of time left on my contract am I likely to get the same deal as my mate through retentions ?

I'd say give it a go through retentions. My workmate yesterday managed to get the desire for £99, but he did have 16 months left on his contact. He's sold his current phone for £130 so is actually £30 better off.

It all seems a bit pot luck as to which advisor you get, but if you remain polite, make them aware that you are thinking of leaving, then you might get lucky, After all, i'm sure that they would rather keep customers than lose them.

Beware of 3 people baring gifts.

I told them nicely that I wanted to leave because I wanted an iPhone. They replied that as I was a special customer (hmmmm... £15/month SIM only, one month notice...) they would do me a 16whatsit iPhone for £99, plus £30/month for 500 minutes (v good) and unlimited everything else on a 2 years contract.

When the iPhone arrived, the instructions were only in Italian (!!) and the phone wouldn't work. Customer Prevention couldn't help on the phone, so I took it into my local 3 shop who apologised but said iPhones are nothing to do with 3 UK.

So I asked to go back on my old contract and now await the arrival of the Jiffy bag to send the iPhone back.

However, as the iPhone offer was, admittedly a good deal, I subsequently softened, and faxed the office in Glasgow (I haven't the will to speak to them on the phone again) on a number I Googled and suggested they contacted me to see if we could metaphorically kiss and make up, and get it on again.

But as Diana Ross once said, I'm still waiting....

Surely you were suspicious when 3 said they would you get you iPhone which they are not 'allowed' (for want of the correct word) to sell in this country ?

Well, they didn't tell me it was "illegal" when they offered it to me, strangely enough. That only came to light when I took it into their shop a few days later.

Interestingly, I notice that 3 are now inviting online customers to register for the new iPhone 4, so I guess they're going legit...
