The remaining 4 x £15 was waived off, so happy that they allowed this (cnew contract starts immediately),and they are in stock too (will be delivered on Monday)

Forgot to say, also got free 2 year warranty too with this.

All I told them at the beginning of the call is that I wanted a Desire NOW and I was going to leave if they couldn't offer me a deal favourable for myself :D

    Hi Foxystoat

I called them yesterday and the guy from retentions was "a good un". I followed your instructions and stated I wanted a Desire and managed to pull off the exact same deal as you got. Without the 2.5 gb internet but with the normal 500mb limit. Which is fine for me though.

He also gave me credit into my account of £25 (one months rental) when I told him that "a friend" had recently had 4 months wavied so they could get this deal.

There must have been a party going on in the background in Mumbai last night at Three, all I could hear at times was a load of cheering and clapping!!

Thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated.

Excellent news, didn't realise I would become the subject of a debate between yourself and 3!

As for being your "friend", how about a split of the £25? ;-)

Seriously though, well done, shows what you can do when you know what to do.

To be honest I dont this this is a great deal - You can get this as a new customer if you buy from mobiles.co.uk (click on the htc desire and choose 3 network)

Its actually a better deal because you get unlimited texts and 500 mins rather than 500 mix and match.

Yes granted you have to pay £29.99 for the phone but you get £60 cashback with quidco.

Perhaps not the best retention deal.....but here goes.

Got 4 months left on a 18 month contract (£15 per month INQ1), and really want a HTC Desire.

I've been onto 3 regarding that I am seeing deals better elsewhere, (and I was quite prepared to pay up on my contract stating there are better offers out there).

    Anyway, they have offered me

    Free HTC Desire Phone
    500 mix minutes/texts
    Free Interenet 2.5gb per month
all the other free stuff via 3 (Skype, messenger etc)
    100 Free Picture Texts
plus free 4gb memory card & free car charger

Got this for £25 per month.

I am happy with this, as I still had 4 months to go on the contract.

You inspired me to ring three lol, wanted the desire and was prepared to buy it out right. Got 3 months left on my current contract paying £10pm for 500 mins and unlimited text, i also buy the internet add on for a fiver a month. So currently £15 pm.

Rang retentions and after a bit of faffing he offered me £170 upfront cost for the phone, a 12 month contract from my original end date (sept) with 500 mins and unlimited text with unlimited internet for £10pm so total cost of contract is 290 over the year :j.

Wow, I am not often told I'm an inspiration to anyone, so appreciate your comments, cannot wait until tomorrow when (hopefully) my phone will arrive.

Been on the lookout for apps already, apparently, there's a free anti-theft app that you can download to the Desire (more detail here http://www.f-secure.com/en_UK/products/mobile/anti-theft-for-mobile/index_main.html)

I have read this thread with great interest.

Personally, i've been a customer with three for SIX yrs, pretty much since they began.

Normally i am happy with their service but during this 18mnth contract my phone needed a new battery which i had to pay £50 for. Most unamused.

However, on the 15/16th June my contract can be renewed/upgraded with the usual 90 days to go until the end of the contract.

Ideally i would like the 500 mins, unlimited internet and unlimited text plan either on the Samsung Galaxy or the Nokia 5230. I just wonder how i am going to get a good price for it, any hints/experience?

Due to issue i am currently having with my handset, the fact it hates to charge and then when it gives in to charging runs out fast - i would really like to upgrade ASAP, as in now, due to the phone being unreliable. However, is this likely? I know 3 can be v strict about the 90 days malarky.

    Thanks,

I upgraded within the last 30 days of my contract and was able to get a pretty good deal (£18 mix and match 500 with unlimited internet and an iphone)
I tried for my friend who had about 60 days left and couldnt get anywhere near it. When I told the advisor what I was getting he said that my friend should call back within the last 30 days to get that deal.

I think its best if you can to just hold out for 2 more months you will probably save yourself about 25% on your monthly payment.

I am currently on a 27.50p/m 500min, unlim text, internet10 on a 12 month contract but my phone had recently started to fail on me. So after reading the posts on here for the past month or so I decided to give 3 a call today ( within 30 days of end of contract as of today)

Went down the 'thinking of leaving' route and said I had found a better deal on the HTC Deisre through Phones4u. The guy on the other end of the phone then put me on hold (guess he was checking validity of the deal I quoted) then came back with this.

    18 month contract
    500mins
    Unlim texts
    Unlim Internet
    for £25 per month.
£40-00 for new HTC Desire to be delivered tomorrow.

Think I could have got the payment for the phone down, but the deal he offered was better than my current one/ better than phones4u so I agreed to it there and then. Only tip I could give is if you are trying to bluff them find a deal elsewhere and they may match it or better it as in my case. Do your research!

Quick update from me - My car charger never showed when I recieved my Desire on Tuesday!!! (surprise surprise) so called 3 last night and after a discussion and waiting on hold for 10 minutes, the CS rep told me that the supplier never sends the car chargers out and tried to tell me I had made a mistake, anyway, after a brief discussion she credited me £6.99 back onto my account to purchase my own one.

Then I asked about my unlimited data allowance and how much "unlimited" data I would be getting. She told me its 500mb which I said that this figure was not what I was quoted the other night and I thought it to be at least 1GB. She said that I could have a 2.5GB data allowance for an additonal payment of £5 per month but I objected, as a previous poster reckons he is getting 2.5GB for the same price.

Anyway, I was told that she was going to call back today reference the data allowance, so fingers crossed I might get another result.
