Husband is on 3 and I've never gone over on my present contract which is the same. I'm thinking that for every text you use you lose a minutes call so it's got to be a better deal. I only use about 100 minutes a month normally so think I will leave it and get used to texting as much as I like :D

@Eyesparky: If you have 'upgraded' then the new contract starts on the monthly billing date. i.e. My minutes get reset on the 1st of every month so thats when I will get the unlimited internet, etc even though it is already showing that I have it on My3.

Thanks for that. Best to avoid expensive mistakes ;). First Android phone so currently mildly bemusted but getting there. Now have to work out how to get the 3 apps like skype sorted. Just played with Beeb player and quite frankly gob smacked :)

    Finally!

I called up two weeks ago to cancel my contract. Was told they didn't sell the Desire by the upgrade team, then got put through to "Options" who told me that I wasn't eligible. Ended up being offered the iPhone for £25/month 24mnths, then after agreeing all the details it turned out to be £35/month, so I declined and before I knew it they'd processed my PAC code and cancelled my contract.

After all the posts on here I rang back today to enquire about the Desire. They asked me why and I said I wanted Android 2.1 on a reliable handset (which pretty much excludes all their phones but the Desire).

Was given the usual speech about customer loyalty etc before being offered the phone for £25/month - the same as for new customers. I explained how it didn't make sense, because I've been with them for years now and know they have 'loyalty discount'.

He went off to check my details again, and came back and apologised that he'd overlooked my discount. He stated I had £10/month loyalty discount, which brought the contract price down to £15/month on the Internet Talker 500 tariff for 24months. I agreed straight away.

Being delivered in a week and a half. Made up with the price and am glad that my persistence paid off.

Thanks to everyone on here for posting their experiences/tips - I'd have given up a while ago if I didn't know other people were succeeding.

My tips for getting HTC Desire:

    1) Explain you want the Desire for the Android 2.1 Operating System, and that it must be reliable.
    2) Discuss the Internet Talker packages
    3) Ask how much loyalty discount you get --> subtract this from what is listed on their website for new customers, this sum is what you should be offered.

Well, I got two calls today within a few hours of each other. I think the second guy was the guy I spoke to who said I would probably have to wait until June to get a Desire. Both of them went on about how good a deal the 24 month contract is but I really don't want a 24 month contract. The best deal they could give me on an 18 month contract was £33 and that was without internet!

Its pretty ridiculous that a month ago when Desires were pretty low on stock they were giving them away on sub £20 18 month contracts just from upgrades and now I'm struggling to get a decent deal through retentions. I know all their contracts for new customers are 24 months now but they're not even trying to keep me. Looks like i'll have to ask for my PAC and see if they change their tune. Its even more annoying when I know they are still doing 12 month contracts even with the Desire.

Sumpong, do you mind saying what you're paying and what you're getting?

Thanks for the tip JamesLB, I will give that a shot.

Fantastic news (completely jealous). Which colour is it and is it locked to 3 or unlocked?

Brilliant phone! It is mainly black with a metallic grey-brown rim around the screen. It looks smart and feels smart, or so everyone tells me! It is also unbranded and unlocked with a 4gb micro SD card pre-installed. The applications are easy to install from the Android market and the WiFi connection is superfast! I've still got a lot to discover on it but so far I've found it easy to use.
ps. I'm typing this from the phone...

    And branded?

Nope, I can put any sin cards in it and no sign of the three logo on or inside it.
