I phoned 3 yesterday to enquire about the "Internet Talker 300" plan advertised on their website with the HTC Desire on a 24 month contract which is advertised for £20 a month.

I went through to the upgrades department and the CS rep offered me a Desire which she said was in stock with them, but the best price they could do for me was the above deal, but for £27 a month. (£7 more than is advertised on their website) I said that I would rather leave and start up as a new customer.

She then changed tactic and decided to keep going on about the Sony Erricson X10, which I told her I wasn't interested in and I hung up.

Last night I called 3 and selected the "thinking of leaving option" and the guy was really helpful, although the line was really bad and I could barely understand what he was saying. I told him I really wanted an Iphone and that I was going to go for a deal with O2. He said that I was eligable to qualify for an Iphone if I wanted one, which suprised me as my GF called them last week and was told that 3 do not sell Iphones.

As I am one week away from being able to phone them and give them my 30 day termination notification the guy from the retentions department told me to call back next week and I will be able to get the Iphone deal or the Desire at the website price. I'll believe it when I see it.

What bugs me about 3, is that I am currently on mix and match 300 with the unlimited internet option and paying a whopping £31 a month. I am due an upgrade now, but rather than matching the website price, 3, it would seem would rather lose my business than keep it.

Why not just get a PAYG phone on another network (use Quidco and get some cashback) and then let your 3 deal expire and port your number over to your PAYG and then sign up with 3 as a new customer (using Quidco again who offer £30 for a 3 contract) on the £20 deal with HTC and then port your number back.

Bit of hassle I know, but you get the phone you want, with your old number plus the cheaper deal.....this is a moneysavingexpert website after all.:money:

After both talks with upgrades/retentions starting with them telling me what a loyal customer I am and how they can do me some great discounts due to this (especially as I have been out of contract for months), they then proceeded to offer me exactly the same desire deals that are on the website and completely backtracked when I queried about it being the same as a new customer!

Was initially told that internet texter 300 was best plan for me, mentioned t-mobile deal (300 mins/text/unlimited internet) was the same price for only 18 month contract and suddenly the £22/month texter 100 on a 24 month contract was the best plan for me and saved me my "hard earned money" every month on the t-mobile deal. Was really after internet texter 300 at £20/month on a 24 month contract. Wondering whether that is completely unreasonable of me?

Upgrades did say they couldn't even nearly match the deal and got bored of the retentions woman repeating herself about the 24 month warranty so have now ended up with my PAC code! This is the first time 3 haven't offered me any concession to stay with them and am feeling rather unloved :( Not sure whether to hold out for a call back or just jump ship?

Sounds like you spoke to the same person as me. The line I had kept cutting out which was a handy excuse to get him to repeat what he was offering a few times just to check it was correct but he does seem to be sitting on all the best deals - certainly better ones than the 'upgrades' team anyway.

Well my Desire arrived this morning and I am now busy playing with it. Phone has no branding or 3 splash screen and all the 3 network leaflets etc were outside the box so it is unbranded (don't have a rival network sim to try in it at the moment to check if it is unlocked). So far really pleased (if not a tad amazed moving from my battered N95 ;)).
I have put it on wifi only at the moment for data as I am not sure when the 3 data package starts from. Anyway, enough of this ... I have some serious play to get on with :)

Well i decided to go through quidco and order the Desire on the 300 texter deal at 20 pounds a month as a new customer as I got sick of trying to get a good deal with them. Have received the contract today which states the phone will be despatched on the 21st but also says I'm on 200 any network minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet:think: Would you say this is a better deal and is the contract binding?

As long as the box is unopened you can return it to them within 14 days and the contract is cancelled. If you ordered it on 300 then why does it say 200?

@Eyesparky: If you have 'upgraded' then the new contract starts on the monthly billing date. i.e. My minutes get reset on the 1st of every month so thats when I will get the unlimited internet, etc even though it is already showing that I have it on My3.

Hold out for a call back

I called them on Monday & insisted I wanted a Desire but they kept going on about the iphone being better. After 45 minutes they gave up & I got my PAC code.
The next day I got a call back from 3.
They offered me a Desire, delivery the next day & cut my existing monthly charge down to very little (half what I was haggling for but couldn't get the night before) & on a 18 month contract.
Desire turned up the next day, all unbranded & brilliant it is too.
Still can't believe it, really want to see my next bill before I trust what they said. :j

But I'm wondering if its a better deal cos of the unlimited texts. The other deal is 300 minutes and texts to use as you like.

Depends how many txts you send and what network your friends are on. I have been on mix and match 500 and never been over my limit as most of the people I call are on 3 so it costs nothing to call them which means I can spend most of my credits on txts instead.
