I think you will have to accept that your contact will change to a different tariff if you don't want to pay a lot for the phone. At £6 a month they are not making enough money out of you to cover the cost of a smartphone.0

Finally offered
Nokia 5800,
75 mins,
unlimited text,
unlimited internet all for £100 -
Hi guys, apologies if this is the wrong place to put this question but was wondering if anyone could advise me?
I have a Nokia 6220 classic which is due for upgrade with 3
I have a discounted contract to basically about £6 per month which is excellent and I don't want to change it.
I pay and extra £5 per month to get unlimited internet access.
What I really want is to keep all the contract stuff the same but to upgrade to a wifi enabled phone with at least as much memory as i currently have (16gb) but when I ring 3 upgrades they refuse point blank unless I pay a 3 figure sum for any wifi phone. Any advice on should I stick or twist so to speak? Thanks guys, David
I upgraded last year to a Nokia N97 and paid £166 which was a bargain as I remained on my £5 tariff (300 mins, 150 texts, £5 downloads etc). The chap made sure I definitely remained on this tariff I just had to committ for another 18 months. Maybe go for an expensive phone and sell it and buy a cheaper one if the price differential isn't much between a basic and top of the range phone...0 -
I called 3 retentions and managed to upgrade to an HTC Desire on the same terms as they are offering new customers on their web site, as the phone was showing as in stock ... £20 per month on Internet Talker 300. Don't know if I could have done better with a long winded haggle but I am pleased with the plan and tariff. Now I only have to wait for delivery to truly believe it

So retentions have Desires in stock now?0

They said they did 20 minutes ago when they took the upgrade order (Hope they do
). She did say stock was limited and gave me a delivery date of 24th but said that I could equally get a text before then and delivery would be on that day (if that makes sense). Give them a try.

Just got off the phone to them now.
Internet Talker 500
100 Picture messages to email (irrelevant)
Standard 3 to 3, Skype, usual 3 extras.
Free HTC Desire.
£17 a month total over 24 months.
Being delivered on Monday
This was coming off the back of the 18 month mix and match 500 for £10 glitch that quite a few people took up a while back.
Edit: The line was crap but he said that if I had any other 3 accounts then he could have offered the same deal on them.0 -

Good deal indeed, well done. Don't think they would have offered me that as I was coming off a sim only. She told me next Monday too but then said 24th (the following Monday) so not sure when I will get it. Now begins the painful, child like excitement of the wait
.
Edit: No they wouldn't budge on my offer saying that I would have had to be on a discounted plan to get it and would only be able to do 500 minutes at £25. Staying with what I have which is still pretty good"I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." — Confucius0 -
I've phoned them a few times and they;ve just phoned me now and I keep getting the same answer - no HTC desires.
Was it retentions that you spoke too? I think I'm speaking to upgrades.0 -

I spoke to upgrades (option 1, 1, 4 on the menu choices). Didn't ask to leave them or anything. I think it is the luck of the draw if you ring when they have stock showing."I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." — Confucius0
