I went through to the thinking of leaving us option (1, 1, 4, 3) and said that I was only interested in the Desire for around £20 a month. If you are happy with your current number of minutes then say so as asking them to move from 500 to 300 or 300 to 500 only confuses them.
The simpler you keep it and the more up front you are about what you want the easier it will be.0 -

Reading this inspired me to have one final attempt at getting the Desire. The CS guy spent over 30 minutes trying to sell me a Samsung first, then a Sony, he finally gave up exhausted and offered me the Desire for £20 a month with 300 mins, unlimited texts/internet, delivered next Monday.:D
So, for the people who have been told there are none in stock, listen to what they have on offer first, then ask for the Desire.0 -

Fantastic news (completely jealous). Which colour is it and is it locked to 3 or unlocked?"I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." — Confucius0 -
I'd never even heard of the HTC desire until I started reading these threads, and now I really want one!
So if I were to ring 3 and say I want to upgrade from my Nokia 6220 classic to to an HTC desire but stay on my monthy contract (£6 a month) what would be a reasonable lump sum to expect to have to pay them for the handset? £150, £200, £250??
Sorry for being clueless, thanks for the helpDavid

I made a couple of phone calls last week to upgrades and then retentions. Upgrades just said, no Desires, no idea when they're getting some more. Retentions said to try them again the first week of June as hopefully they would have more stock. Got a call from upgrades today saying they have them in stock. They didn't want to give me an 18 month contract for any less than £30 a month.
I've been keeping a note of all the deals people have been getting from this thread and numerous posts on hotukdeals. Most notably these. All through upgrades. I mentioned these deals but they couldn't even get close to them.
I've been with 3 for 5 years now. Do you have to ask for a loyalty discount and is it only if you keep the same tariff or something?
I mentioned the 18 month £25 300 min and 300 text on T-Mobile and they said they would get back to me if they they can compete with that.

I phoned 3 yesterday to enquire about the "Internet Talker 300" plan advertised on their website with the HTC Desire on a 24 month contract which is advertised for £20 a month.
I went through to the upgrades department and the CS rep offered me a Desire which she said was in stock with them, but the best price they could do for me was the above deal, but for £27 a month. (£7 more than is advertised on their website) I said that I would rather leave and start up as a new customer.
She then changed tactic and decided to keep going on about the Sony Erricson X10, which I told her I wasn't interested in and I hung up.
Last night I called 3 and selected the "thinking of leaving option" and the guy was really helpful, although the line was really bad and I could barely understand what he was saying. I told him I really wanted an Iphone and that I was going to go for a deal with O2. He said that I was eligable to qualify for an Iphone if I wanted one, which suprised me as my GF called them last week and was told that 3 do not sell Iphones.
As I am one week away from being able to phone them and give them my 30 day termination notification the guy from the retentions department told me to call back next week and I will be able to get the Iphone deal or the Desire at the website price. I'll believe it when I see it.
What bugs me about 3, is that I am currently on mix and match 300 with the unlimited internet option and paying a whopping £31 a month. I am due an upgrade now, but rather than matching the website price, 3, it would seem would rather lose my business than keep it.0
