So why stay with 3? I find they are actually cheap for a reason.

    Pay peanuts, get monkeys.
  • Cos I'm tight! I have to admit I'm partially to blame, I should really know better by now.
Besides, talking to friends today, some are actually on cheaper (comparable) retention deals from the big networks. Almost all are very happy with their service too... lesson finally learnt! If it turns up they can have it back. Think I'll go PAYG with anyone but 3 until the next iphone is out, see if I can talk myself into stretching for a quality phone on a quality network.

My wife renewed her contract tonight. Mix and match 500 with a Samsung Tocco Ultra for £10pm on an 18 month contract. Also 1gb of internet.

She,s not a big user and was very happy with this deal.

Well I've got a note from DPD *sigh*, they tried to deliver today and I wasn't in.
What deal did you go for in the end? Was it the Hero? It seems that the £15 a month on M&M300 + internet is a pretty common offer from them on that phone.

Will call them up and see what they offer me it as that is still a good deal assuming the android 2.1 update actually arrives. If it doesnt then that takes the shine off it a lot.

Might sit tight for another month and see if the android update appears first then give them another call. Hopefully the Desire will be in plentiful supply as well by then so they can stop hiding behind that as an excuse.

Yes I took the Hero, regretting it now though. Like you said 2.1 is expected in June? possibly delayed yet again, and in 18 months the Hero will be a very old handset indeed. I'm going to cancel, like you I'll hold on for a few months perhaps.

Edit: Just cancelled the upgrade, requested my PAC

From what I can find on the web the update is now due in June but may slip again. I am not in that much of a hurry to upgrade as the phone I have is fine and my current contract of M&M500 for £10 a month is a great deal so will wait.

Once Desire stock improves they will almost certainly want to clear out the Heros as demand will drop off which should improve the deals and the Hero is still a very good phone.

After getting my pac last night...
I got a call today from retentions with a few offers..

1st was a lifetime deal of £10 per month, 18 month contract with SEc903 with talk & text 300.

2nd was £15 per month, 18 month contract with Samsung tocco with talk & text 300 & 1GB internet.

Last offer was £10 per month,18 month contract with HTC Hero (£50 for phone) with talk & text 300 & NO internet. (Internet £5 extra, so its worse than the offer I was given last night at £15 per month inc internet with free phone...)

Have just taken the deal on the HTC Hero on a 700 mix and match tarrif with 300 3to3 calls, free voicemail on an 18 month contract for £15.75 plus £5 for 1Gb of internet. My No.1 daughter is having the phone as an early birthday present so will cancell the internet on Monday. Will only cost the £15.75 from then on in.

Beware. There is a version of the £5 internet max add-on that locks you in for the entire contract term (page 32 & 33 of the 3 price guide) If you agree to an internet add on as you renew a contract the lock-in version is usually the one they put on your account.

I believe internet max is month to month only if you add it separately (i.e not during a renewal negotiation)

Just to let everyone know that 3 have changed their site and introduced new plans on the Desire this month. You can now get it from £17 a month (M&M100 + 500MB internet) upwards. This is much better than the deals they had on it last month.

The Hero is now from £16 a month (M&M100 + 500MB internet). For the extra pound I know what I would go for :)
