I'm with Three now and have gone close to my 1gb allowance a couple of times. When I've got over 900mb they've texted me every time I connected to the internet saying that I was approaching the Fair Usage limit and that they would disconnect me till the next month of my contract if I didn't stop.

I did stop, so I don't know if they would have gone ahead, though the constant text messages meant it was pretty hard to continue browsing the internet anyway.

the 2gb add on is only seen under the blackberry add on. so i dont know if this can be added on to the htc desire plans.

The unlimited blackberry add-on on page 9 is only for blackberry phones, read more of the price guide and you'll find the other standard pay-monthly add-ons on page 29.

There you will find the price guide lists "Add Unlimited Internet and Email" as a £5 add-on with a 2GB allowance.

They've created a very confusing situation where on the one hand "unlimited" means 500MB if "unlimited" internet is included in your contract, and on the other hand "unlimited" means 2GB if you buy the add-on.

So, if I've worked this out correctly, as a new customer, ordering online I can get:
    100 Mix & Match
    Unlimited Internet (500MB)
    2 Months Free Spotify
    Free Desire

    £17 (was £19) over 24 Months
    Total over 24 Months: £408

But, to get a "decent" level of internet access I need to purchase an add-on for £5 per month. Question is, do I need to purchase this monthly? or can it be added on to the contract automatically?

It costs £5 per month and allows up to 2GB
Total is now £22 per month
    Total over 24 Months: £528
    The T-Mobile deal
    300 Minutes
    300 Texts
Unlimited Internet (3GB limit for all Android devices)

    £25 for 18 Months
    Total over 18 Months: £450
I can get more minutes/texts/internet on a shorter contract with T-Mobile, it costs slightly more per month but the overall cost is less.

Without the internet addon 3 is cheaper, but I fear 500mb will not be enough.

I haven't factored in any Quidco cashback.

Do you have wifi at home/work? If you do then that can save a big chunk of the Internet allowance.

I cannot see the option to add on the bolt on at the check out so I guess you will have to do that via My3 once you have the contract.

A lot of the people I chat to are on 3 which is what is making me want to stay with them and I can cope with the low(ish) minutes - looking at the 300 one for £20 a month.

Edit: Cant see that t-mobile deal on their site. Where is that from?

Aaarg - wish I had waited a little longer for these new 3 deals to come in. My new VF contract is due to come alive today after giving them my 3 PAC.

I am very worried that the VF coverage at my house is going to be so bad I will end up taking the phone back, meaning I may end up going back to 3, but this time as a new customer and not being able to ask for a shorter than 24 month deal.

    Oh well.
  • been referring to this thread quite a lot recently and have now left three so thought I'd share my experience.

went to close my contract a month early paying the charge, said I was leaving because I wanted an android handset. after a long time of him trying to get me to take a nokia N86 he "talked to his manager" and this was the best they offered me:

    HTC hero
    £99 one off handset charge
    300 mix&match tariff
    £15 a month
    + £2.50 internet add-on
    18 month contract

the only thing that makes that a special offer is the length of the contract being shorter. I don't use my phone a great deal but if I continued to use my phone as I do now I would constantly run over my limit. crap deal basically. maybe if I had waited longer I would have got a better deal but a part of me just wanted to stop having to deal with them.

I have left three now to go to virgin who are giving me:

    free HTC desire
    600 minutes
    unlimited texts
    unlimited internet (1GB)
    £25 a month
    24 month contract
(offered to existing customers - I use their internet service already)

not really a total bargain and a bit annoyed that three have just changed their prices since I only went with virgin on Monday but oh well.

the 512mb internet limit would turn me off three and to be honest I had to phone virgin customer service relating to my PAC code and it was a breath of fresh air after being with 3 for a few years!

Just popped into the 3 shop at lunch, they have all the new charges, no Desire in stock though. Although, they did say that with the new prices customer services can no longer undercut them, and that they can offer any of these deals to existing customers. Don't know how true this as I haven't yet called them up, but interesting none the less :)

I also went to my local 3 store at lunch and they also didnt have any Desires in stock :-P They thought they might have some in on Friday but couldnt match the prices on the web as that is a special web only deal.

I then called retentions who said that they didnt think they would have any in stock for another 3 to 4 weeks :(

Looks like I am stuck until retentions get more in for the time being...
  • I have been with 3 for 2 contracts of around 30 months combined, and I am due an upgrade next month. Has anyone been offered Blackberry's on a reduced retentions deal?

I was told instore that there is a lot of rigidity on the Blackberry pricing and that they will not buge on pricing, and after the new proce plans it works out similar and in some cases even better to go with other providers. For example comparing Orange and 3.

    Panther 35 = £30pm / Unlimited Texts/Internet / Photo messages / Sat Nav etc.
    Internet Texter 500 = £33 / Unlimited Texts/Internet

So basically is it worth getting it on Orange now, or wait a month or so for 3 to get themselves sorted and beat it?
