I cancelled my account with 3 2 weeks ago and they gave me my PAC code. Since then I agreed a deal on the HTC Hero and received it today but the deal is no better than those online. I have decided to send it back as they now have the Desire on offer. I know this is for new customers but if I order one on line how do they know I'm not a new customer at the same address IYKWIM. If I give different banking details wont this be ok?

I've been talking with 3 over the past few days about an upgrade, both customer service and my local store said that the new price plans are for new and existing customers. So you should be able to "upgrade" to these new plans.

There is still some confusion though, no one I've spoken to knows how the internet and other add-ons work, info is sketchy on the 3 blog, have a read of the comments: http://blog.three.co.uk/2010/05/04/our-new-pay-monthly-plans/ Also, it appears that this information still hasn't filtered down to customer services and the stores, they had no idea about the new limits.

Also, note that the new contracts are 24 months contracts, and you might be able to score a better deal elswhere (i.e. T-Mobile 18 month for £25)?

In my case, I use very few minutes/texts so a 100 or 300 mix n match will be fine for me, so it's a good deal in my case. My local store are expecting Desire stock to arrive either tomorrow or Tuesday, either way they said I can come into the store to upgrade to one of the new price plans and walk out with a shiny new Desire. I was told on the phone that they will none in stock for the rest of May.

I've got to ring them tomorrow to send the Hero back so will try to get a new deal with the desire. I'm also on the 300 mix n match plan and never go over so it will suit me fine. Went into T mobile with my son the other day to change his deal to the Desire and only managed to get it for £30 a month for 24 mths althoogh that is with 900 minutes.
Think all plans are going the 24 month way as the phones are getting more technical. Doesn't matter to me :)

I phoned Three today and made a half-hearted request for my PAC code to see what they'd offer me. I said I wanted to leave as I wanted an iphone or HTC desire.

Nice chap, first he asked me what kind of deals I'd seen, I was a little unprepared so I wasn't able to quote him anything particular. I asked him about the HTC Desire and he said it wasn't available.

He then offered me an "exceptional" deal on an HTC hero (which was extremely unexceptional, it seems to be the same as on the website), £25 p/m, 300 mins, unlimited txts / web, 24 month.

I told him I wasn't interested, and next he offered me an iphone 3gs 16GB for £35 p/m with 500 mins, unlimited txts / web, 24 month, £49 (I think) upfront cost for the handset. Seemed like a decent enough offer but I declined as I really wanted the HTC Desire.

The guy backtracked a bit and checked with his manager, he said that it was out of stock currently but he'll call me tomorrow (we'll see!).

Whilst you can upgrade in store they are the full price and not the discounted ones on the website i.e.the £20 300 M&M online one is £22 when upgrading in store.

For this reason I am waiting until retentions eventually get more stock in which they also said to me would be the end of the month. My local store (Basingstoke) said they might get some in tomorrow but I wont upgrade unless they will match the web price.

This is true, but bear in mind that the current deals online will all expire on the 31st May. The chappys I've spoken to on the phone were all unable to confirm an offer for me until the Desire was in stock, also, they were all very noncommittal as to whether they could match the current web prices.

Yes, retentions are not interested unless its in stock so I am waiting until the end of the month before trying again because its not worth the effort with them hiding behind that all the time.

From monitoring the 3 website the past few months, most of the 'offers' roll over for a couple of months so I am not going to worry too much if it slips into next month either.

The store also said that if the special web offer sticks around for a while (like promotional monthly recurring discount bringing the £22 down to £20) then it will filter down to them eventually as a managers special or similar as it needs to run for a month or so online before it becomes non promotional/web exclusive.
  • Anyone know if cancelling a Three contract months in advance and paying the termination will affect my credit score at all?
I've been waiting on the phone for over an hour and a half to speak to the cancellations department and am yet to speak to a human, what makes it worse is that I have a brand new Orange Blackberry Bold waiting to be broken out of its box but I don't want to before I've sorted out the 3 contract first.
