The retention team that is talked about - do they call you? How long after you cancel/ask for a PAC?

When you ring up and try to cancel - the first team you speak to will be Retentions. Generally, they can't offer you anything much better than you see on the website for any customer. If you continue to state you want to leave, they *may* put you through to "Options" - they're the people who can really help since they have some discretion (but will still lie to you).

I've given my 1 months cancellation notice now and will wait for the Options team to ring me. If after a week they haven't, I'll ring the upgrade team and re-state my intention to cancel - and hope to be put through to someone at Options who can at least match the deals that I can get from other networks.

One thing I've learned from reading forums, is that when they say "Three can't offer the Desire" - what they mean is "I can't (/wont) offer the Desire to your account". I'm not sure how they work-out who gets what, since I've been on a £25/month contract for 5 years now and have spent outside my allowance most months - I'd have thought that would have seen me eligible for the best offers. Obviously not.

Three used to be out and away the cheapest (hence the long running, "...but are they the best?" thread on here), but it seems they've slowly shifted to being more expensive than the special offers you can get from other networks.

    Update:

Called me back today, 24hours after I declined their initial deal and cancelled my contract.

Saleswoman went through the usual "you've been with us for so long...always pay on time..." - then went through a great sounding deal, just to offer me the exact same price I turned down yesterday. She did re-state that I was not eligible for the Desire.

I get the impression they're trying to shift these iPhones - it seems that the new model is due to be announced in the next few weeks, so this may be a consideration for anyone tempted by this.

I got the same impression, but I'm not complaining!

When the new iphone does come out it will be very expensive, so I wasn't going to say no to the deal they offered me last week (sick of using my old brick of a phone, wanted something sharpish and don't mind being a model behind!)

    SO...

received my nice new shiny 16gb iphone 3gs this morning,

    £20 a month
    £129 for the phone
    18 month contract
    200 mins
    unltd texts
    unltd internet

The phone was imported from Italy according to the accompanying letter - I understand 3 Italy do offer the iphone on their site. Perhaps they have an overstock??

Still, I'm happy, best deal I've ever got from 3!

I'd be very happy with that deal too. Enjoy and count yourself lucky!

Do you remember what date you were offered it? I've categorically been told that the offers on iPhone ended at Christmas.

Yup, no iPhone offers for me either, you must be special :p

Thanks, I do indeed count myself lucky!

I rang last Monday with the intention of paying off my contract, I was 14 months into an 18 month contract, £20 a month so no big spender or anything like that here...

When they asked why I wanted to leave I specifically said it was because I wanted an iphone, and they made the offer straight away...

Well I've got a note from DPD *sigh*, they tried to deliver today and I wasn't in - no kiddin', they'll try tomorrow - gee thanks, I can take a day off to wait for a delivery sometime in 12 hours at no notice, yah. Nearest collection point is 2:45 minutes drive, or I can ring a premium number and pay £11 for delivery, can't get the cheap option because of work :(

They'll return it to sender after 3 days, can I just let it go back and cancel with 3? thoroughly sick of them now.

I cancelled my contract with 3 last weekend and got offered an iPhone 3GS 16GB for £15 a month, but it was £200 for the phone.

I'm sick of the poor customer services team so told them where to go, back to Orange where I belong with a HTC Desire.
  • I wouldn't count on getting an iphone from 3 till you've got it in your hand, mine didn't turn up. I called and was told the delivery date was the following day, implying I was wrong, which I wasn't. Didn't arrive the following day either. Phoned again and was told they had cancelled my order, couldn't give me an reason why. I've had 5 consecutive contracts with them and have never once missed or been late on a payment, as they pointed out themselves when when I was upgrading. Anyway the operator went back to the old line of what features of the iphone do you like and tried to sell me an not so cheap hero  I asked about another iphone but she did her best to put me off! I was on lunch and didn't have time to complain. I'm now supposed to be getting a Samsung Galaxy Portal for £16 mth with 750 mins 150 txt 50 mms 1GB internet £5 download etc. Despite the operator's promises that she would personally ensure it arrives tomorrow, I doubt it will. It will be the 3rd order they've messed up. I was supposed to be getting a SE Experia X10 but when that got "stuck in the system" I decided to cancel. I've had problems with 3 on my last two contracts (on my fifth) and when something does go wrong I've found their CS to be the worst I've ever encountered. I swore both times I wouldn't subject myself to them again and am starting to remember why! This plus the cheaper deals some others are being offered makes me think it's time to walk. Unless they are offering you an amazing deal, I'd suggest you save yourself a lot of hassle and do the same!
