Moogs, you ask for the PAC code when you want to cancel and you then pass that on to your new provider, enabling you to keep your number.
I think it's valid for 30 days but if it runs out you can ask for a new one.
It seems to best offers are made at the point when you ask for the PAC, or even in a follow up call after you've been given it.
I'm in similar position to you, currently on the same deal, £15 for 300 mix and match.
As I've said above, 3 have offered me an SE G502 with 75mins/unlimited texts for £9.78.
I'm weighing this up against Virgin's offer of a Nokia 6303 (or LG KS360 or LG Cookie) with 150mins/250txts for £12.
By the way, 3 told me the new phones they'll now supply will overcome some of the reception problems like the ones you mention using a new tie-up they've instigated with Orange (discussed above in this thread).0 -
I am on Talk & Text 900 at £40 a month (outrageous I know) and my contract end on the 6th October. My usage has gone down a lot since I have left uni and now need around 400 mins 100 texts and would like unlimited internet, but three seem unable to offer me anything that you can't get as a new customer.
I have spoken to them several times and I have not managed to negotiate any discount as it seems most people are hitting a brick wall at the moment.
I am going to request my PAC code and see what happens. In the meantime I will scour other providers for something cheaper.0 -

Thanks for the advice.
Also I forgot to ask in my orginal post, does anyone know about unlocking our phones at the end of the contract, my wife and i both have nokia 6500 slide, can we ask 3 to unlock these as the contact is ending, and if so is this free or do they charge?
thanks Again.0 -
I think most Nokia phones are easy to unlock for free using codes found on the internet.0

I have been reading other forums and 3 have given people N97 on the £5 a month deals for a one off payment of around £160 as long as they commit for another 18 months.
Anyone been offered this deal?0 -
Oh I see what you mean - you're saying buy a phone elsewhere and continue on the current contract.
2 years ago I got a sim only £5 a month deal, a year ago I got a basic phone on the £5 a month tariff (18 month). I've always bought my own phone to go with it and just treated it as a subsidy free tariff (I've just bought a Nokia 5800).
Even with data it's only £10 a month - that's a pretty good deal. I don't hear of many people getting good deals any more.0 -
Well I have been looking at Nokia 5800 as my current phone (spv m700/HTC P3600) is showing it's age and battery life has gone considerably bad and I also find it a little too big to fit into the jeans.
So looking at the smart phones, sim free are quite expensive except for the N5800.
I was reading another forum and the few people have got N97 for one off payment with £5 a month so I would be happy but it seems it's pot luck whether 3 ring u or whether u ring them and pursuade them to give you a phone.0 -
I did ask about trying to pay a little more for my phone but it did not help. A few months ago things were very good. Its looks like a lot of the stuff now you are sometimes better going through Quidco for a new account, like many have said before me, they dont care about loyalty that much.
And watch out, I was told (who knows if its true with them?) that outbounds will not be calling as much as they used to. I think this may be true and many have said they have not had calls, we all know they used to call you every day!
(by the way this week they are pushing the E63, if you want one nudge them for it, they are not too bad, wifi and all)
I hope this information helps someone
Thank you0 -
Hi
My husband and I are currently with 3 on an 18 month contract (mix and match 300 I think) and have been told that we are entitled to an upgrade on 25 September. Does anyone know what phones we are likely to be offered to upgrade to? Also, would they put us on a 'new' contract i.e. another 18 months or would we just continue on our old contract?

Three let you upgrade before the end of your contract, but then your new contract doesn't start until the end of the last one. A better question to ask them is when your contract is up rather than when you can have an upgrade. You will tie yourself in to another fixed term contract (and it's retentions, not upgrades that have given the best deals in the past).0
