  • Hi guys, just though Id share my experience with u. Got a retention deal about 12 months ago. Talk and Text 500. It was a £25/mnth contract at that point. I got a £15/mnth discount on it. Was due for an upgrade yesterday. Called them up and asked them my options. Very nice chap. But the offer was absolute crap. He offered me the Talk and Text 300 for £14.63 with a free Sony Ericsson W595 OR C903 or some other nokia. He went on about how I have been with 3 for 5 years and how I am such a valued customer and all that bull. When he was done, I told him I could get the same price plan as a new customer. His reply was that he was giving me a free phone. I checked it out online. None of the phone's cost more than £3/mnt. So I politely said goodbye. I plan to give them a call every 2 weeks or so untill 30 days before the end of my contract. By which point, if they havent offered me something good, I will cancel my contract. I love the new touch screen phones other service providers are offering. Looking forward to ending my contract with 3 and getting myself the HTC Touch Magic on Vodafone. Its a pity though. 3 have been reasonably good so far. I would have stayed with them on the contract and got the MAGIC on ebay or something.
In summation - never agree to anything the guy on the phone says without first checking it out yourself. Technically, he was'nt lying. But it was such a crap deal. All the talk about valued customer sounded positively silly after I did my research.

Have to agree wholeheartedly with the last few posters. 3 seems more than happy to let long standing customers go, and my upgrade experience mirrors most. 6 years with 3, good loyalty discount last time, absolutely nothing this time, even after giving notice. In fact, the reason I left (and I did put it in writing) is because they totally mislead you, saying you're getting such and such a deal because youre a valued customer, when in fact it's exactly the same deal that new customers get! They also even tried to charge me £80 for an upgrade phone (not even a particularly good one..Samsung Soul) when it was free on the website on the plan they offered me! I also only asked for more texts this time round, was happy for a basic phone too. I said I'd stay if they gave me 200 more texts a month..they refused and I left!
PS whiteknight..have a look at Virgin. Personally, I'm now on a month by month rolling Sim Only contract. £25 pm, 700 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited data...

Hi, Need some advice basically in which phone to choose:- I am currently on mix & match 500 £18 a month with £8 loyalty discount so I pay £10 a month.

I logged logged onto 3 website to find out which upgrade options are avaiable and the can offer me the following phones without increasing my existing line rental.

    With £10 a month I can get - W595, G502, C510, LG U990im Samsung B2700, Skyphone S2.

    If I increase that to £13 a month I will get C903, E63 with £12.

What would you suggest - which is the good handset to upgrade.

Sorry for the writing in bold - I tried to change it but for some reason it did not let me.

I just upgraded to the N97 for £166 on an 18 month contract.......AND kept my £5 per month loyalty contract - 300 xnet mins, 150 texts, £5 downloads. With internet add in works out around £19 per month over 18 months with the N97!

I had one and hated it, battery life was very poor, I got rid of the phone in 2 days.
