I used to have a 6280 which is very similar to the 6288 I believe. In August they offered me a 3120 classic which I like much better. Although it's larger than the 6280 it's much thinner and sits nicely in the hand. It makes the 6280 slider mechanism feel like an unnecessary gimmick. The battery lasts for ages (was poor on the 6280). The camera spec is the same - not marvellous but quite acceptable for daylight pics. As it's a Nokia Series 40 like the 6288 it should be more or less identical to use.

I don't know if this handset is still current, of course.

Spoke to a gentleman just now and said I was prepared to go to T mobile as three wouldnt transfer my £14 pm loyalty discount to any other plan and I wanted more texts. He gave me a slightly improved deal, (1100 mix and match for just under £20 with the nokia 3120) Thats another 200 mins or texts for a few quid less than I have been paying so I'm pretty happy with that and have accepted it. Whats the betting now Ive said yes, that some other person from 3 will ring with a better deal!

Chrissyxx - Is your upgrade tied you to another 18month? I doubt 3 will contact you again after having accepted a deal. For £20 a month you can get a lot more for your money by taking out a Sim Only deal on T-Mobile or O2. E.g. If you take the O2 sim only for 12 months you get more minutes and texts, and also a free bolt on for the same £20 pm, and a bit of Quidco cashback for your troubles.

I've had numerous conversations with 3 and they're not playing ball when it comes to retaining customers, so I'm moving on. They were not able to offer me anything a new customer couldn't get direct from their website. I would have been happy to accept their current £20 E71 deal for £15-£18 as a renewing customer, but alas no such luck. Oh well their lost. O2 or T-Mobile gets my money this year :)

The trouble is you also have the hassle of porting your number and the hassle and expense of getting your phone unlocked.

Porting is easy once you've got your PAC code...it takes 2 days to transfer over. But you are right, unlocking can be a hassle if you don't know where to do it. I normally either get a local shop/market stall chap to unlock for £5-£10 or just buy the code off fleabay for about the same. Its normally just an unlock code you enter on the phone. But I can understand it being a hassle if you don't know where to start.

Oh I forgot to say, if you're planning on getting a new phone anyway, then unlocking isn't even necessary.

Yes, the deal was for another 18 month contract, they wouldn't budge on a 12 month one. Thank you for your advice re O2 though. I did actually look at taking a SIM only deal, as you suggested, but as mentioned, you then have to have your phone unlocked etc, and my phone is a bit worse for wear now. Hopefully, the minutes/texts on this plan should be more than enough, I was just hoping that they would at least have allowed me to carry over my £14 pm loyalty discount to another tariff, thus saving me a bit more money every month. Knowing my luck, I did probably accept the offer a bit quickly, but I am getting a slightly better deal than less year so cant complain too much.
  • Called me earlier offering 1100 minutes unlimited texts and Internet add on for £26 plus some !!!! handset, denied.

Don't need that many minutes and I want a touchscreen handset. Off to Orange I go I think!
  • alextwilson - I've just noticed 3 have started to advertise the BB Bold on the website for £29.79 pm. Which isn't too far off from what they were offering you without the handset. Might be worth considering if you want the Bold, but you'll be tied in to 24mths
  • I've still got quite a bit of time left before my contract runs out but they seem to be more interested in just making me pay for more minutes I don't need!
