If it's a 3 SIM you can straightaway. If not you can pay 3 £15 for the code to unlock your handset so that you can use any network's SIM in it. (If you decide to do that, make that call (to order your unlock code) separate to the one you are making to the cancellation dept).

A PAC is the way you can keep your current number when you want to change networks.

If you want to transfer your number to another company, then you need to ask for a PAC. (If the operator you deal with is smart you can't use the "no longer need a mobile" reason for cancelling and also ask them for a PAC!)

I'm looking forward to seeing what 3 can offer me this time.

I extended my original 18 month contract (Video Talk and Text 700 on N73 with 512mb internet) around this time last year for another 12 months. Kept the N73 and got £22 'loyalty' discount, so it's costing me £13. I also have a mobile broadband contract so need to stick with 3 (otherwise it'll double in price)

The N73 is getting long in the tooth, so I'm after a Renoir or Tocco (or something along those lines with HSDPA and decent screen for the net - hmm the U900 doesn't look bad either) - anyone been offered one of those on a sub £15pm renewal?

When I cancelled my 3 contract back in September 2008, my mobile broadband still stayed at half price it has been 4 months now and I have got 12 months of it left.

I wondered if they'd ever notice, especially as they've used my middle name as my surname for some reason on one contract. Excellent, I may start looking elsewhere, though I'm definitely not going back up to £30+ a month for my main contract again, what with the credit crunch and all that..

    Hi

I'm new to all this phone negotiation so I wondered if anyone could help me. I started a contract with 3 in June 2007 for 18 months. I'm currently being charged £24 a month (£4 of this is the paper bill fee) for which I get 500mins and 75 texts. I have a pretty crap phone (fat black nokia 2pixel thing) which I don't really like.

Before I read this thread, I was thinking of phoning 3 to cancel my contract and just change to a pay as you go sim. However I've seen you guys get better deals than £24 so I wondered how you do it and what you have to say. My main thing is I want to pay less and I want to keep my same number. A newer phone would be nice as well.

I've been threatedned twice with debt collectors for paying my bill late - so I don't know if that will wreck my chances of a better deal.

    any advice appreciated.

  • Hi,
I'm new here and have just been reading through this thread and wondered if someone could clarify something for me?

I am on 3 now, and am due and Upgrade from Feb 19th, a relative of mine had an upgrade from 3 on 10th Jan, when she was getting the upgrade I enquired about what would be available to me as I have been hankering over the LG Viewty for MONTHS now.
The guy in store said to me that at the moment online, to new customers, there is a deal for a refurbished Viewty, along with a free Wii - he said when my upgrade was due to call 3 and tell them I want to leave.

Now, I have seen some of you mention that they are offering deals which are currently on the website. I was wondering if this meant I'd be offered this Lg Viewty deal? If not, when I call up and give them my, fake, story do I say to them "I have seen the Viewty deal you have on, can I have it" or do I have to be subtle? I'm not very sure how to go about the haggling for this specific deal as it is what I have set my mind/heart on having.

    Many Thanks

    See this post .......

The deals available do change with time but the principle remains the same, you won't get the best offer just by phoning up and asking for it and you won't know what their best offer is unless you cancel and wait till the last minute.

Thanks for that, what I'll do is I'll beg for it without requestin Pac, if they dont give the deal I'll say I wont cancel right now, and will wait til I have 30days left, and then fingers x they'll offer the deal!

Do you know though, if I cancel the contract, get the pac etc. Will I be able to, with the same phone number go online and order the deal straight out? THE ONLY difference between the deal showing online and why I cant get it, is its only available to new customers the price etc. is all the same as I'm currently paying.
Or will I not be able to rejoin 3 with the same number?

I didn't bother with a Pac I just asked for the No to revert to 3 PAYG at end of contract which kept me the No without using a Pac.

Not sure if then, having a 3 PAYG, you can sign up to new contract as a new customer, possibly not. You could always go from 3 PAYG - Pac to Other PAYG (with free sim)- Pac back to 3 as a new customer.
