I went in store yesterday to see when I could upgrade (18 month contract ending in February).
Told him basically I wanted the Ericsson C905 - I currently have the K800i with the 3.2 mega pixel camera which is an easy phone to use and the C905 is pretty much the same.

    Was offered 2 deals:

    - £30 a month as shown on their website with the 'free' photo frame on an 18 month contract. Told him no way was I having that - I could get the same deal off the internet so no loyalty given in renewing.

    or

    - Stay on my current £15 a month tariff (50% loyalty discount for being with Three for about 6 years now, got onto this tariff at last renewal nearly 18 months ago) 500 minutes & 100 texts and only a 12 month contract. BUT if I wanted the C905 it would cost me £102.00 to have the phone - still a lot cheaper than paying the extra £15 a month for 18 months to get it 'free'.

I could have had a few phones for free but I really want the phone I want, if you know what I mean! I can leave it a couple more months to see if the price to pay comes down as my contract doesn't end yet.

We have the exact same phone, although when I went in store they told me to ring the main office and they can't offer me anything special. I am currently on 75 any time mins and 600 text £15 a month. My contract has been about a month expired. Whats the best way to get a new phone off them and get a good deal?

Try giving them notice to quit.

(If you don't want to leave, and if no attractive offer has been made during the notice period, phone and withdraw it the day before it's up, and then try again)
  • Im coming up to the end of my 18 month contract too, was a good deal at first.

    750 Minutes xnetwork
    150 Texts
    50 Video Minutes
    50 Multi Media Messages
£5 to spend with 3 online for tv and such
    An LG U300 phone
    £17.50

A great deal. it was a special half price offer of course. my first contract with three.

So..... i get a call from 3 a few weeks ago offering me nothing better than what they have available on the website (1st insult to ''valued customer''). I ring them back and get put through to the scottish guys. I was offered an N95 8GB with the 500 minutes or texts, unlimited 3 to 3 calls. Ok i thought i'll take it. Even though i was paying more and getting a worse deal. dont ask. then i rang back to check that it was the right deal and everything. of course, it wasnt. what was down as the deal id been offered was, suprise, the same deal as on the website. in fact a worse one. I got put through to the scotts again and he apologised and they sent me out the phone. i waited in all day. suprise, theyd sent it to the wrong address (iv stopped counting the insults to ''valued customer'') then they said it would be sent out again next day, of course, wrong adress. sack it i said. send it back and cancel the deal. by this time i realised that they are royalling ripping me off. so they can swivel as far as i care, Vodaphone have 600 xnet minutes and ulimited text and unlimited calls to three other vodaphone numbers, changeable. and its a monthly rolling contract cancellable at any time.

If im reading this thread correctly. it seems that three is getting more expensive. the first posts state a 500 xnet minute and 100 texts for less than a tenner, in 2005 or something. we are getting royally screwed here guys.

I had the same deal with the LG U300 phone and is coming to an end.
Looks like I will be saying goodbye if the upgrades are being handled by the Scots. Their jocks are way too tight for my liking...
Will post the upgrade they offer and I turn down....

SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • I cannot believe how bad 3 are, Great for my first year, then offered me 500 minutes for £15. New phone came and I used it, paperwork came later and said I only had 300 minutes. Wasted hours arguing but finaly gave up. If you are offered a deal on the phone I would not open new phone untill deal confirmed in writting. Then a couple of weeks ago the phone stopped working. they said it had been reported stolen(it hadn't) took over a week to get working, every time they ring they get you to reboot the phone etc before they escalate. keep you on phone for hours. Seem to acuse me of trying to use a stolen phone(which they supplied!) they leave loads of messages on mobile which does not work! Now the same thing has happened again and I am starting all over again. How long do you think it needs to be out of order to justify me cancelling contract? I need the number ported so I think they hold the ace cards.
  • I phoned 3 last night because I was pretty much at the end of my tether - broken phone, poor reception ("but you are in a good reception area"), dropped calls, texts not sending - "we will send you out a new SIM" - no mention of current SIM being deactivated. Last night my SIM was deactivated, new SIM had not arrived. Is it just me or would it make more sense to wait until the customer calls to activate the new SIM before deactivating the old one?

Anyway, I let all hell loose on them, and they refused to cancel my contract for free (they were asking for an early termination fee of £53, which had it been any other time of year I probably would have ended up paying). They offered me a goodwill (!) gesture of £5, I refused.

Then they 'checked my loyalty points' and said I was entitled to an upgrade. I'm currently paying £15 for 75 mins and 600 texts, I tend to use about 200 of each a month. So they offered me the Mix and Match 300 for £15 and a new INQ1 phone. I accepted...probably stupidly. 14 days to change my mind though so if the phone turns out to be an inoperable brick I'll send it back. I really am thinking it was a bit mad to sign up for ANOTHER 18 month contract. Ah well!

**I just phoned 3 again as I found a better deal online - £20 texter (200 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited internet). Now as I buy a £5 internet add on every month this seemed a bit more sensible? They gave me that...reluctantly, tried to offer me the £5 add on on top of it! Still, I'm the fool for putting it up with it all for another year and a half
  • Had a call a few days ago as my contract ends 6th January.
The best deal I could be offered was what I was on anyway just with a new sony ericsson phone.
    12month contract VTT 500 with 300 mins 150 text, 50 mms £5 downloads.

The guy who called me from Scotland (I think) said that they do not offer any good 12mth contracts anymore and I wouldn't get one from anywhere else.

Declined his offer as I would still be paying £19 per month so there was no benefit for me. He also said that they don't offer sim only deals.

Called the retentions team 333 this morning. Spoke to a lady from the India call centre, asked about the 6 month deal they have on offer on their website. She said she couldn't offer me that as it is for new customers only. For some strange reason she could offer me the 500 mix and match on an 18 month contract which also stated for new customers only.

I told her I could get a sim only deal from Virgin 450 mins for £15 with no contract tie in. Lady went away and came back and offered 500 mins mix and match for £13 per month and no contract tie in. Not too bothered about a phone as only had my current phone since Jan 08. Agreed to the sim only deal which is ideal for me. More miniutes for less money. Just what I like... saving £72 for the year...great stuff....
    Smile loan - £2821.98 / £0:)
    Lloyds CC - £3102.54 / £3071.51
    B'Card - £7615.65 / £7444.30
    Bank of mom - £6000 / £6000
    28/02/17 £ 19,540.17 / £16515.81 05/04/17
  • Had a look at the N96 in store and didnt think much of the build quality.

Got a call from someone from three who was offering me:

    1) mix and match 1100 with 2000 free landline mins and 2000free 3 to 3 mins and 500mb internet for £34 a month with E71 or HTC Tytn 2.

    2) DTT 1000 for £26 a month not internet, which would take it to £31 a month, plus any sms that i would use extra.

Compared that to T-mobile offer which gives Flext with £250 worth of calls and texts (eg1000mins and 400txt and 50mms) for only £36 a month with a free G1, E71 or £30 cost for the BB Bold.

Compared to that, unless you use lots of minutes to landlines and 3mobiles their contracts do seem that cheap, not to a high user.

But T-mobile to charge you for voicemail...

    Decisions...decisions...
  • Haha, thanks for posting your offers from 3. its amuzing to me how they treat everyone different. they try to screw you every step of the way.

I got through to the indians and asked to give my 30 days notice, they offered me 5 off any tarriff but no phone. plus 300 3-2-3 mins. thanks to you guys i think i can aim a little higher than wat she offered when she rings again tomorrow.

Edit 6th Dec; was offered 500 mins and texts and 2000 three to three minutes for £18 with N95 8gb on an 18 month contract. (refurbished but not used, just sent back when a customer decided not to go ahead with deal, apparently if you ask for refurbished you can get it for free on the mix and match) i will sell the phone hopefully for more than £200 which would give me an effective line rental of £7 a month. you can also upgrade at any time to 700 mins and texts for £21 with the money saved from selling the phone effectively bringing the tarrif down to £10 a month.
