We do not currently pay for call waiting, but when I went to order BT privacy, it said that we would be charged £1.75 for it. Anyone know why?

BT offer a number of features such as call waiting, call barring, 3 way calling, call divert etc. One of these services costs you £1.75 per month. If you order 2 to 4 of the services the cost is £3.50.

It looks as if call waiting is the only service you now pay for from BT therefore it is charged at £1.75.

    Hope this explains it.

It shows up on our bill as £0.00. This is why I didnt sign up to BT Privacy because it said it would start charging £1.75 for it. Does anyone know why I am getting it free? Does it come free with BT Together option 2 or something?
  • Just ordered mine - thanks
:DThe world would be a sad place to live with no chocolate! :D
  • I to have only just found out about the 1280 to direct calls back to BT.
And if you REALLY trawl:mad: through all of their Learn more's on their site-it does state in one somewhere that you need to make 'At least 2 chargeable(to BT) calls a month' to get the free caller display
also noticed im getting a 98p low user charge on my 1571! as well.
have to 1280 that as well!!
hope that helps save someone some money :)

It's 2 chargeable OR inclusive calls per month (or 6 per quarter if you're billed quarterly).

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Yes, just to be clear to the people coming to this thread with a lie in the title -BT do not provide any "free" services and in particular caller ID is not free.

If you meet their exacting T&Cs they may not charge you, however. That is not "free".

Just got off the phone from BT who informed that even if you are on one of their inclusive plans (eg. BT Anytime - free calls 24 x 7), they will still levy a low usage charge for their 'free' 1571 and caller display services if you haven't made six separately chargeable calls (e.g. to a mobile). How ludicrous is that? I was so gobsmacked that I called back to validate these facts with another agent. They said exactly the same. Has anyone got any experience to the contrary, or have BT just changed the goal posts?

You were told utter nonsense by yet another poorly-trained BT bod (or, it appears, by two poorly-trained BT bods).

Please see today's post by BT company representative Patrick on another thread:
